What the hell is up with Jeb?! Why does he keep adding stupid stuff to the game? Pretty soon Minecraft won't even be about blocks or pixels anymore. Notch was better when he was developing the game.
It was never about blocks or pixels. It's a sandbox adventure game with building. That being said, Minecraft is really not about anything in particular.
Don't like the new stuff added? Don't use them, it's not a hard concept to understand. In my opinion, the game is better off with Jeb and Dinnerbone right now. Jeb can do more in 2 weeks than Notch can do in 2 months.
I think a lot of people like to associate minecraft with a 'retro' theme. I did at first (cuz vanilla textures look pretty darn retro) but after you get bored of alpha/beta and their handful of features you need more toys to play with.

Notch took away unlimited fire spread and under Jeb, it was brought back for Hard mode. Jeb had the reins when jungles were added, pigs were made controllable, and flower pots. Yeah, the last two are snapshots but they all make the game much better than it was after 1.0 and the release.
But seriously, explain what you feel is stupid and expand upon what you mean when you say "soon Minecraft won't even be about blocks or pixels anymore." It makes your complaint look a little more thought out, even if others think it is stupid.

This is kind of getting off topic but I tested infinite firespread on hard in the snapshot and it didn't work. :/
This opinion will always crop up, and it can come from anyone. What Minecraft ultimately is, isn't set in stone. It's developed on the fly with no clear end point, and that's always been the case. It doesn't have a release date (not truly), and it's always being refined. People develop set ideas about what Minecraft is, and updates are not infrequently going to bring those ideas into question. For some, Minecraft was a bare bones building experience; then Notch added survival. For many it was a survival experience with the added ability to achieve great machines and structures -- then Notch added Creative, levels and enchanting.
As the game develops, it's gonna stomp on our preconceptions about it. We're all going to have to deal with that, because the worst thing to suggest is that Mojang stop developing it.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.
The title of this thread is the most to-the-point title of these kinds of threads ever, I love it.
I do disagree, and I have to say that everyone who hates minecraft and loves to ***** about it is going to have a rude awakening when the mod api goes live and mojang stops adding the little things the rest of us love. Then you will have nothing to complain about.
In my opinion, Minecraft went full retard since 1.8 beta because of the new terrain generator and guess what, its not caused by jeb but notch and the game still sucks because of it no matter how amazing Jeb and Dinnerbone are adding.

MOD IT, then.
Ye gods, maybe it's just me, but this particular complaint is the one I find the most annoying. And it's SO easily solved. So very, very easy.
And yes, I know, "BLERGH BLERGH, BUT IT SLOWS DOWN DA UPDATEZ!!!1111", that's right, it rather does. Which SHOULDNT MATTER because you hate everything ANYWAY, right? That seems to be the general theme here.
Yeesh. Dunno why the concept is so bloody hard. There's lots of mods out there that do this, and ONLY this. Go get one. Stick it in. Make new world (or expand old one). Doesnt exactly take long to do. And BAM. "Problem" is gone. And then you merely update the game whenever the mod-maker updates. Very, very simple.
As for me, I praise them for changing the generator to what it is now. Definitely prefer it over the older ones. Good work, I say to them!

.....why in the world would they stop adding stuff at that point? There are LOTS of players that dont even use mods.
Anyway, you underestimate the complainers. They would then complain about the LACK of updates, or they might go complain directly at modders (and plenty already do this as it is, it seems).

Maybe they won't, but I do predict a major slow down in new content delivery from mojang at that point. If you watched the PAX panel then you may have also gotten the hint that the majority of creative content responsibility will be shifted to the community after the API drops. At least I did. I don't mind it as much, but I do worry my interest will wane in a climate of slower, uninteresting updates. When Notch was still developing minecraft I would play for a few days a month maybe (after my initial addiction!) but as soon as Jeb took the captain's seat I've played for a few hours each night, and I eagerly await more updates.
If the mod API slows down vanilla content, I hate it and want it to go away. Screw the modders, no one even uses them beyond a few videos on youtube and a single playtest.

Allocators are no longer the future, we have Hoppers now. I still like them, though.

Here is hoping for the best, I guess!
I dunno, I cant see them doing this, to be honest. The game is pretty freaking big for them, and also, even WITHOUT the mod API, modders still crank out SO much content as it is. There are about 80 kerzillion mods to choose from even without it. So it's not like that aspect doesnt already exist.
But also, I think the guys at Mojang are smart, and know full well that plenty of their community doesnt even USE mods, and will continue not using them when the API is done. If they just decided "Well, we dont need to do anything now, we've got all those modders there!" quite alot of fans would be disappointed.
The only way I see them slowing down anytime soon, is if they decide it's time to really hunker down and do some major bug-squashing before continuing with updates.
I personally play this game all the time, and even without updates, I'd STILL be playing it all the time; it's just that darned good, heh.
But even if the updates were to outright stop, there'd still be 8 kersquillion mods out there worth checking out, AND the chance to simply create my own.
Though I do prefer Mojang's own content over mods, but still.
Yeah, that's good and all, but, uhm, how about explain why everything is "stupid"?

(cwhatIdidthere?)
OH MY GOSH DINNERBONE ADDED CONTROLLABLE PIGS, SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE WERE REQUESTING SINCE THE INTRODUCTION OF SADDLES, IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!
I am ninja'd far too often.
Guess who's responsible for the horribly textured Huge Mushrooms? Not Jeb.
THEY ADDED CARROTS?!?!?!
OH NO IT'S ALL OVER THEY RUINED MINECRAFT
