I have been farming zombies for a little bit and have got about 6 carrots and still no potato. Have I just been unlucky or have other people experienced lower drop rates for potato as well?
I guess you're just unlucky. I killed about 50 zombies to get a potato and again about 50 for the carrot. After that I didn't notice anymore since I grew a LOT of them Just keep killing them and one will finally drop it.
What I'm wondering is why in the hell do zombies drop carrots and potatos? They use to drop feathers, now this? Must have been farmers before they zombiefied.
What I don't get is why dont carrots and potatoes get there own seed?
I mean, it seems odd to me to just click the dirt with your already grown fresh potato.
But speaking of the rates, we are both unlucky. I hardly get them as drops!
It makes more sense for them to drop carrots and potatoes.
Think of all mobs as being magically created persistent roaming packs, an evil wizard lost control of his experiment turning the minecraft world into what you know it today, and when the light comes they burn up and their matter falls to the floor and sinks into the ground.
Then when night comes that matter reanimates and they spring right up from the ground. Zombies sometimes fall dead over naturally occuring carrot and potatoe plants, they are small cause they have too much grass taking too many nutrients so only they only mature to seedlings, and zombies having the most body, when they spring up from the ground, they can sometimes have potatoe or carrot seedlings stuck onto their dirty bodies.
Then after countless days of their death / undeath cycle you killed them and took the carrot and potatoe seed.
It doesn't work with skeletons cause they are all bones, nor with spiders cause they are insects and spawn differently, and creepers only form out of leafy matter and sulfur from deep within' the earth!
It was a wizard many years ago, and with each new update a part of the magic returns... Minecraft is Magic.

Umm, you can stick a fresh potato in the ground and it will grow into a potato plant.. You can actually cut it up into pieces and get many plants from it.

You shouldn't be necro'ing threads. These people were discussing something 6 years ago. Stuff in the game has changed in that time period and I'm sure your input to their conversation is not warranted or wanted.
Yes sir.
Who cares?
They have fancy feather hats
Carrots and potatos
are great
yeah
low drop rates for now
okay?
I'm sorry, how long have you been not updating your Minecraft? Zombies have been dropping Rotten Flesh since Beta 1.8.
Anyway, perhaps Farmer Villagers should sometimes sell and buy Carrots and Potatoes. That would be a good addition.
