Whenever I have to fill my hunger bar I eat (obviously) but whenever I do it makes me fill my bar fully, say I have 5 bars to fill and I eat 1 steak, it will automatically make me eat 2 to fill it, no matter how hard I try to let go of right click as soon as I'm done, the eating noise still plays and I end up eating another. It is starting to get very annoying.
Yes, but its not unavoidable. It seems to happen if you send a command immediately after eating. For example, if you hold the right mouse button to eat the steak, then immediately run forward, the command gets repeated. You can avoid the bug if you eat your food and hold still for a moment. Also if you start to hear it eating a second piece, hold down the right mouse button as if you want to eat another piece, then release it before it does.
Yeah, its a bug. I seem to be able to cancel it only half the time.
You have to hold the button a pretty long time to eat 2 steaks. And you have to hold it down the whole time just to eat one, at least 2 seconds, though I am not sure of the exact time.

Well since I ran out of food due to the bug I made the cheaper golden apples to sustain me (since I had like 30 apples lying around). High saturation leveled food whilst I wait to breed more animals. Though I'll probably just end up using bread as well.

Wait...
If you are somehow "forced" to eat an extra steak... how does that make you run out of food faster? All it will do is fill up your hunger bar, which you would have needed to do anyway.

I would accidentally use 2 instead of 1, say I was down 4 1/2 haunches. I eat one steak and have 1/2 a haunch left. With this bug I completely waste a steak by eating it to fill only 1/2 a haunch, a steak is worth 4. Not only did I waste 3 1/2 haunches, I also have 1 less steak then what I should have.
This Can Be Expected. They Made Single Rely On Mutliplayer Much More Now. So A Few Bugs Can Connect. Since 1.3 We've Been Seeing More Bugs And It's Because Of The New System. if Mojang Can Work Out Those Kinks Instead Of Adding More Content That Causes More Bugs, I Think We'll Be Fine....For Now, Lets Hope 1.3.3 Isn't Content, But Bug Fixes For Stuff Like This....

And they have no choice but to add content alongside bugfixes. The 1.3.2 bugfix update already has people whining that it has no new content.

IMO 1.3.2 was a good start, they fixed that annoying nether glitch that got me killed a few times, other times I had to dig my way out from y:30.
I also agree with there being enough content right now. 1.4 makes the game look like an RPG, I don't like it much, we're fine right now (besides the bugs of course, and lag but you can't do much about that.)

*sigh* 1.4 isnt out yet. 1.3 added mostly trading and just fixed the enchantment system. The game doesnt resemble an RPG in any concievable way. You have "levels", but they could have just called those "power charges" or something, and people wouldnt have noticed any "RPG-ness" to them. Heck, they dont do anything to your character even, you just jam the blasted things into swords and stuff. Brewing potions in particular was never an RPG-ish mechanic to start with (I really cant think of any that do this). Just ignore those elements if they're that much of a bother. All of these things exist to give the player more options and add more stuff to do and more ways to do them. They're fun if you give them a chance.
Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway.
As for the food bug, try switching to a different item right after eating the first one. That's always stopped it for me. Though, with the bizarre randomness of some of the bugs that are in 1.3.2 and the snapshot, it's hard to say if this will work for everyone.
Doesn't food over fill you? So if you eat 3+1/2 haunches beyond full then it will be correspondingly longer before the hunger bar drops below full than if you ate to exactly full. So the extra food you eat isn't wasted, and you get the regeneration effect from a full hunger bar for longer.
As best I understand, it can sorta still be wasteful using them that way. I think? .....or maybe not?
There's 2 main counters for this, there's the "food level" counter, which is what you actually see as the hunger bar, and then there's the "saturation level" counter, which you cant see. Saturation is depleted before the hunger bar itself starts to go. You could think of it as a "fullness" counter, so using more filling foods like steaks will mean that it'll take longer before your guy gets hungry again and the meter starts to drop, while eating things like cookies (which have very low saturation) means that you'll be eating them pretty often, because each time it wont take long before the meter starts to go again.
That's how it works, but I cant say for certain what is the most efficient way to use a given food item. I'm surprised that aspect isnt mentioned on the wiki page for it.
This happened in multiplayer in previous versions, but it was much less noticeable because the eating sound didn't play. One of your food items would just disappear and your hunger bar would quietly fill up.
I've actually been using this to my advantage. If you can learn to time it right, when you need to eat two items to get to full, you can eat the first one, release your mouse button at just the right time, and be eating the second one while you're sprinting at full speed or on the inventory screen. Kind of tricky to pull off, but it can save you a little bit of time. If you only want to eat one, you can either switch to a different item immediately after eating, or release the right mouse button, hold it for a bit, and release it again.

I wasn't referring to the enchantment table when I said RPG, I love the enchanting system and being able to use it, one of the best things in the game IMO. I was referring to the 1.4 things, I just don't like the look of them, but then again I've only seen Docm's review of them, so in order for me to be 100% sure I guess I'd have to see more.

Yes it does fill your saturation bar but it's still a waste since you can't go over 20 on that or the normal food bar. 9/10 times it would be a waste if I accidentally had another steak, even if the saturation bar was down 2 haunches and the normal hunger bar was down a haunch (just an example).

Aye, probably best not to judge those until they're done. I keep wondering where in the hell they're going with this wonky pyramid thing myself, but.... that appears to be far from finished (and not even remotely balanced yet).
Hasnt been much else shown yet, that and the command block (and armored mobs) are all that I've seen, at any rate. Oh, and the frames and a couple other decoration items. If there's more that I'm missing here, do feel free to enlighten me.
... I could be wrong, though. Either way, it's pretty annoying - but much less so if you only eat cookies.
