I want to enable cheats on my main single player world. How do I enable to cheats? Thank you for any help!
I believe you can't enable cheats if you already have a world created. You can start a new world with cheats. Otherwise, just get Single Player Commands mod or something.
While in your Single Player world, press Esc -> Open to LAN -> Allow cheats.
Argh. Beat me to it! But yes, this is correct although you will have to open to LAN every time you load the world.
I use this feature to investigate redstone wiring on custom maps!
OK SERIOUSLY its horrible to always have to open to (lan > allow cheats)
here is how you really do it:
make a separate creative world and allow cheats, and switch its Level.dat file with the one in your normal world.
It is in the saves folder of your world. before you do this put all your stuff in a chest and write down the coordinates of your home.

good luck peeps
That is an absolutely horrible suggestion. That will mean that your seed and all sorts of things will get changed.
The best way to do it would be to exit your game, get NBTExplorer and use it to open your current level.dat, then change the AllowCommands property from 0 to 1, save and exit, then start up Minecraft again.

There's a tiny little java thing that allows you to change the gamemode (survival, creative) and choose cheats on/off, called gmchanger.
Still seems to work in 1.7x
This program worked like a charm! I was able to easily adjust my Survival No Cheats world to Creative Cheats On, game version 1.7.10. No hassle at all, Used gmchanger, saved changes, loaded Minecraft and it worked perfectly!
So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...

Thank you A_Herb. This worked for me in 1.8. So simple.
This would work. There is a option when you go to edit your world that allows you to turn on cheats.
