What WILL happen is that logs, when PLACED, will become rotatable. Thus, you'll be able to place log blocks with the tree-rings facing north-south instead of up-down, or left-right instead of up-down, should you choose to build something like that. It won't make trees "fall down" like in real life, Minecraft physics will stay minecraft physics.

We're just getting rotatable logs. Hopefully they implement this into the natural trees so they stop looking so goofy, but at least we can make the player crafted massive trees look better. Plus, wood side-texture as flooring/ceiling, woo!
Thousands of tree farmers with thousands of tree farms in thousands of servers will go out of business.
Know why?
Because, when trees start to fall,
It completely messes up farms.
(What if it falls on another tree, or fall and breaks saplings?
Brace fo impact.
Trees will work exactly the same as before.

nothing changed in tree mechanics. logs are just placeable on their sides.
