I would really like horses. If we already have "cliché" animals like pigs, sheep and cows, why not horses?
I guess they could add more cool original mobs later on which are hostile instead.
If horses were to be implemented, maybe hay blocks could be included with them which Jeb talked about like what, 1½ years ago? Then with that we'd be able to make awesome stables for them.
If the use of the animal is original, the animal isn't cliche.
I don't like the idea of horses. I think it would unbalance things by making fast travel too easy. Currently it takes quite a bit of resources to set up a fast travel system in terms of mine carts and Nether portals and that gives us a goal to work for in the game.
If they did add horses I think they would have to be quite high maintenance or have some specific limitations to keep it balanced.
I'd prefer controllable pigs via wheat on a fishing pole.
Thats awesome haha.
I feel that it would be nice to have horses as well but they are definitely not needed (They could make cows or anything else mountable and controllable with different items)
Maybe they could add into the game the ability to change the capabilities to the mounts too like sugar for speed, etc

A modded looking for dedicated (at least consistent) texture artists/modelers to make magic with! Not literally magic...but...mods! PM me...
I'd prefer controllable pigs via wheat on a fishing pole.
THIS!
-Easy to implement. The fishind rod, the wheat, the pig and it's textures are already in-game.
-Easy to use. Just craft the rod+wheat, hold it, climb on a saddled pig and move the mouse to the desired direction..
-Difficult to gain access. Requires finding a dungeon and the saddle on one of it's chest. Therefore, it's a feature already balanced.
-Probably easy to code, as the animals AI already make them follow wheat.
-Gives purpose to an otherwise boring game mechanic. Once you ride a pig for the first time, you wish it's your last time.... not if you can ride the pig to wherever you want!
-Gives another purpose for fishing rods.
-Truly rewards the player that finds a saddle. Encourages adventure and dungeon searching.
-It's a creative way to use a mob as way of transport, not like horses. It goes well along with Minecraft subtle-fun aspect.
I could go on and on.
Compared to this, horses are ****.

If we even get a rideable mount, I would never approve of a pig. There purpose is to farm and eat them I think that should be the only thing.
Horses would be badass in faction servers. Imagine being able to fight with your horse with high speeds and to double damage your enemy.
Having a war with pig mounts would look ridiculouse. But from a non fighting perspective I still think horses would be good in transportation

At this point I want them to make pigs ridable just to finish what they started. The current use of saddles is useless beyond making pigs easier to kill with your bare hands. And correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the saddles disappear if you kill the pig fitted with one?

I've been a Minecraft player since Beta 1.7, still my favorite game!

Yeah the saddles dissapear. I woudln't rage quit the game if they added rideable pigs but they should atleast have a 50/50 chance of droping the saddle when it dies :I

I respect your opinion... specially as a pvp type of player, something that I'm not.
But:
1-If pigs were just for food, saddles wouldn't exist in the first place. Making them rideable would, like I said, give the saddle a purpose other than "fun".
2-Pigs will be whatever Mojang wants, not what we want. You saying that they must be just food is useless. I listed a couple logic reasons that makes them more viable mounts than horses.
3-Factions are not Mojang's concern. If faction servers want a proper mount, it's their duty to implement, not Mojangs.
4-You have a pretty romantic, MMORPG-driven, view of how mounted battles should occur in Minecraft. Like I said, I respect that, but It's Mojangs decision to add a mount only for transportation, or also for battle and pvp. You must remember that pvp is secondary on Mojang list of priorities. If you can kill creepers and zombies while on a horse, that is pretty much unbalanced and makes the game easier than it already is.
-Probably easy to code, as the animals AI already make them follow wheat.
It might be difficult to code the wheat being held by the fishing rod and moved around properly. I say just let the player assume direct control over the pig like boats.
Maybe allow the player to use sugar on the pig to charge forward at high speed for a transportation cost.
That would be cool, and if they could be like wolves and ocelots, so you can tame them, and you give them an apple to tame them, that would be AWESOME!
I don't get why everyone wants horses so bad...they're just unoriginal. I like it when Minecraft is abstract, and makes things like creepers and enderman. Horses though, that's just boring.
Yeah, because zombies, skeletons, cows, pigs, sheep, wolfs, and cats are so terribly original. There are few things in minecraft that are truly original. The nether is obviously hell, the skylands are a heaven, and the end is an oblivion/ void. Endermen are based off of slenderman, and the creeper was accidentally made by notch when he was making the pig model. Being a "copy cat" is okay. everything has already been done, so what is the use in trying to make something original?

I would make it to where you direct the rod and the pig rotates to that direction to follow it. In essence, it would turn the same speed a boat would. Maybe change the speed by hold down shift to lower the rod and make the pig skitter for it?

I agree with you, so don't take it as an insult, but i needed to point a few things out.
the skylands are a heaven
As of 1.2.5, there are no skylands, though.

I'd support this, IF...and only if... when I crashed my pig into a tree, it dropped 2-4 pork chops and the saddle

Such as with using pigs as mounts

Seriously though, controllable pigs. Or maybe the emu and it could glide like chickens to prevent fall damage as well as faster travel.
THIS! So much.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
