Honestly, REMOVE IT BECAUSE IT'S TOO RARE!, Is simply idiotic. That's no valid point to remove it. If it's too rare, complain about making it more frequent, instead of freaking wanting to remove it. The stupidity of people scares me.
Hey Jeb, removing it won't stop the complaining. Instead, we, the people that actually liked the idea, will complain!
Gol, the first thing to be removed since the human mob had to be something we liked?!

He's removing it so people wont be confused with the new block, but i completely agree, just cuz of that does not mean he has to remove the emerald block, I like the new block, It looks good, so what if we will have a hard time to get it it survival, its a part of the challenge so Jeb, BRING IT BACK! \m/
For those who are complaining about emerald ore being too rare, perhaps a little comparison could help. In Terraria, one of the tiers of weapons and armor is made of demonite ore. Naturally spawning demonite ore is not only ridiculously rare, but only spawns in groups of 2 or 3 units. It's so rare, in fact, that it glows in the dark, so you can see it anywhere on screen even if the area isn't illuminated. "How," you ask, "are you supposed to get enough to craft materials, than?" Well, natural ore vanes aren't supposed to be your main source of demonite. You're supposed to kill bosses, who drop large amounts of it. This means that, if you want to get shadow armor, you're realistically going to have to summon and kill the bosses.
Back to minecraft-- the idea behind emerald ore is essentially the same. Sure, it's available naturally, but it's much easier to get it through trading Natural emerald ore is intended to be a fun little extra you find while mining for other materials.

Completely missing the point of the reasons why the ore got removed - you win first price.
People didn't have a problem with the ore being there - their problem was that it was TOO RARE because they thought, the ore is the primary source of emerals.
However, you're supposed to TRADE to get emeralds and when the only way to encourage people doing so is to remove the ore - then I say it's better remove the ore asap.
Let's face it, what you people want is a new decorative block (the emerald block) - and you act as if it would be impossible to get it without the ore. THAT however is NOT TRUE - you can still trade with villagers to get emeralds to get that block. No problem in any form. At the same time, without the ore, people would stop complaining that the ore is "too rare" because it's not there, hence they use the way you're supposed to get the emeralds, via trading.
Nobody looses, everyone wins.
However, if we KEEP the ore, the current situation of people spamming jeb with "Emerald Ore is too rare" and "Make Emerald-Tools" won't stop until the cows come home, which isn't usefull in any form.
When people saw that there was a new ore, people did assume it would be like Iron and Diamond, yes. And they did assume that the ore was the main way to access it. But Jeb never really bothered to say otherwise till he decided to remove it. If he had said earlier that it was meant to be a bonus, like Cocoa Beans in Dungeons, people might have understood his intentions more and not speculated.
And you also forget the fact that emeralds can only be obtained through trading. Meaning that worlds generated without villages do not get access to Emeralds, and also no access to the Emerald Block.
But I saw no problem with keeping the Ore, it was very hard to obtain, and if someone really went out of their way to find a Mountain Biome and begin mining for a rare ore and become rich and trade with villagers, I don't see the problem. It's still very hard to do it, and can take a long time to gain a decent amount of Emeralds. Yes, trading for Emeralds is much more efficient, but why remove another way that really wasn't broken and many enjoyed? We haven't had any new Ores since early beta, and the idea of a rare biome-exclusive ore was greatly accepted by many. The game is called MINEcraft, and mining is a part of the game that's been neglected for a while.
Just imagine it this way; There are two ways to get Cocoa Beans; By growing them, or by looting dungeons. Now obviously, the intended way is to grow, and in dungeons is just a special bonus. But what if Jeb decided to remove cocoa beans in dungeons because some people liked it and used it as a way to get cocoa instead of the 'normal' way? No one really gains from this, the people who got their cocoa through trees are unnaffected, and those who got their cocoa from dungeons no longer get to do so.
Anyway, I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has signed the petition, I honestly didn't even expect this to get 20 signatures, let alone this many! While the computer I am using now is to... Awkward for me to safely edit the front post without losing data, please know that I will do that ASAP, so keep the signatures coming, each one is appreciated! And hopefully Jeb will reconsider this if he sees how many people really want Emerald Ore to remain in game.
Removing it because it was too rare? WHY? The US didnt say you cant mine gold during the gold rush just because it was too rare to find? Thats like this. Ive found probably 35 diamonds max in 6 months of minecraft
I think the thing that gets me the most about the people arguing that the ore needs to be removed because it will somehow destroy trading if you can just mine the money..... its sorta like the people who argue that trading will ruin the game because you can just trade for the items you want.
Neither is a problem unless you choose to make them a problem.
The Ore was from my understanding rare enough that it made a good occasional surprise. Trading is like beds, in that I'm probably going to use it occasionally but most of the fun I derive from the game comes from exploration*. Still if I am short a block or two to finish a project it will be nice not to have to go spend 20min expanding a branch mine because I'm short a single piece of redstone dust (this has happened). If I'm short a bunch of redstone the branch mine is probably faster and certainly more rewarding.
The reason I think that jeb should certainly leave the blocks in is simple. Witholding content that is just over the horizon keeps me from playing Minecraft. Simply because I know if I explore now before it has been released my world will generate chunks without the updates and that will leave me out of luck when it comes to things like desert temples. For example if I was to find an extreme hillzone after emeralds are removed I'm SOL for that hillzone ever having emeralds. I can always hope to find another extreme hillzone at some point when and if they are ever reintroduced....
Sadly because I know all these awesome updates are just around the corner, I have not been able to explore nearly as much as I would like. For fear of stumbling across an extreme hillzone or a desert that would have spawned a temple. So if anything I would say If jeb ever intends to re-add emeralds (and it sounds like he does), he might as well just leave them in the game.
It seems if I am not mistaken, lots of things in Minecraft (blocks in particular) were added without significant function, the function often came in subsequent updates.
*Mind you that while I do say and mean that most of the enjoyment I get from the game is derived from exploration. I do not wish to explore multiple continents to find biomes I have already found, Simply because the biomes I found were generated before the content in question was added. Especially when the content was added, planned to be removed and from the sounds of it planned to be re-added at some future point.

This guy gets it. And as far as people complaining that its too rare or its a stupid currency... Then don't A.) mine for it, and B.) don't trade with NPCs.
There's your answer. Just show apathy towards it. Here's a great example:
I don't like pumpkins. The helmet thing is something I consider stupid and they don't look as good as glowstone. So, I don't use them.
Look at that. There's a block in the game I don't like, so I don't use it.
First of all, because he added trading in the first place, it was obvious that the emeralds were ment to be for that and it was even stated at a few points as well as in almost every video on YT covering the new snapshot.
And the cocoa-beans are a bad example. First, there was only one way to obtain them, the dungeons. They were rare, but nobody bothered because they didn't have any usefull purpose either. Now after becoming a bit more usefull, they became more common by getting a second way, which is the easiest one to get them and that way came a lot later.
So, removing the ore doesn't remove anything other than the ore itself. If you play without villages, the emeralds might still can spawn in dungeons if jeb adds them to the itemlist of the content for dungeon-chests (as dungeons can even spawn with buildings disabled)
At the same time "What if you play without villages' is not a legit argument as without pre-generated buildings, you don't get access to a few other blocks, either. Like Endstone, mossy Stonebricks ect... - but I don't see you whining that you can't get those in that case, either, which lets you look a bit dumb, to be honest. Either make a petition with EVERYTHING or NOTHING, not half-assed with only ONE block.
Woah, calm down. Your last bit comes off as a bit hostile, and I don't really want any flaming going on in this thread. But the history of Cocoa beans doesn't matter, what matters is how they can be obtained currently, which, IMO, is somewhat similar to emeralds. And yes, while I do think it would be nice to have a way added to get all blocks in worlds without structures, this is about a way that is already in the game but is being removed.
1 - the history of the previous ways of how an item worked matters a lot, espically in this context. The growing way was added A LOT later and was explictly stated to be the new, primary way of obtaining cocoa beans. In this case, the primary way and secondary way are both added at the same time and A LOT of people appearently thought, the secondary way is the primary - hence, the secondary gets cut so that the primary stays the way it is without issues.
2 - It's not in the game yet as the update is not released yet. It was a test and it failed badly. We've seen such changes already a few times within a snapshot like how cats act. A few ways were changed later because they didn't work out the way they were originally intended. Nothing different here. Hence, this kind of petition only makes sense in context of the finished update and in this case, if it stays the way its planned currently, the emerald ore shares the same fate as the sponge - not needed in Survival in the first place, still avaible for mappers and creative-mode players. Simultaniously, the emerald block shares the same fate as many other blocks only avaible for people playing with structures enables - only avaible for those.
So, either ask for having ALL blocks added even when structures are disabled (won't happen, at best we get Netherbricks and stuff crafted with it) or stop acting like spoiled children and simply accept that, if you don't enable everything or play in creative, you don't get everything.
You have yet to say a good argument about why remove it from game. You want it removed because you don't like it. But as you can see, major majority wants it.

His argument is that it was meant to be the secondary way of obtaining but lots of people think it's the primary way, the main problem being, not everyone knows it's only in one biome. Then, people dig around for ages thinking they might find some and some get lucky and run into the right biome.
It's not an issue of how they were added, it's an issue of people NOT INFORMING THEMSELVES.
You should really word the petition in a nicer way than it is now. The reason why Jeb removed it is because people complained and whined non-stop for something they didn't even understand, so Jeb decided to "punish" them and hopefully make them whine less in the future. Now if you create a petition with more whining and saying Jeb is making no sense, do you really think he will even want to accept it? He obviously knows the consequences of removing this ore and how people will react, but that's exactly what he's trying to do. If you really want him to add the ore back, ask NICELY, something like apologizing about the people who were complaining and that we would really love to have it back.
It's his game. He does whatever he wants. If you negatively comment on his decisions you will only **** him off more, even if he does eventually add it back.
