I've had Minecraft for exactly one year now and the whole time I had to deal with sticky keys.
YES, I'VE CHECKED MY KEYBOARD FOR STICKY RESIN. NONE AT ALL.
It gets really annoying especially around lava, and I lost diamonds and tons of expensive items just because of it. I never had this problem in other games, so it must be an software issue.
If I am just rambling about my own problem then sorry, but this bug has been so annoying... I rather not get into detail.
A fix in the next recommended build would be nice.
Im not talking about Shift 5 times one, I mean the one where you press a button and it acts like it "sticks" when it physically isnt.
Oh well in that case, you need to either clean your keyboard if the keys are getting physically stuck, or get a better computer if the're getting virtually stuck, since that is only caused by bad framerate or a bad system.
I'm pretty sure this is a bug with the version of lwjgl that Minecraft uses. I personally don't have a problem with it, but you should be able to update it here. http://www.lwjgl.org/download.php
All the players on my server have experienced this too. You're walking sideways and then take your hand off the keyboard and you're still walking sideways. The only way to fix it is to press that key again and it seems to stop. Has caused quite a few deaths by falling and lava!
I don't have this problem but you have no idea what you're talking about. Just because something is weird doesn't mean that it can only be caused by a bad computer.
That's not what I'm saying.
The "stuck keys" problem is common in any game that gets bad framerate. Bad framerate is caused by a bad computer. Therefore, stuck keys = bad computer/

My framerate is typically around 80fps. I have a quad-core 2.66GHz, 6GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 465, solid state drive. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with my computer being "bad". My girlfriend also has 2.66GHz, 4GB RAM, GTX 460, solid state and she gets it too. We're both running JAVA7 on Windows 7 x64. My best friend has a completely different setup (and usually plays on Linux) and I'm pretty sure he gets it there too.
The only times I ever get it, and my system isn't as good as yours, is whenever I get a short lagspike or rapidly press lots of different inputs. I never get it outside of these conditions, and the input-spam doesn't usually do it.
Same problem here, I was having this problem with my old keyboard and then I bought a new one, but the problem stood there and only in Minecraft. But I can't remember if I had this problem in the last weeks.
I used to get this on rare occasion, but luckily it never killed me. Optifine fixes this. Get it. It's the best and most "vanilla" mod there is. Performance increase, no sticky keys or double-placement, a huge array of graphical options, limited multi-core support (as opposed to none in vanilla), better texture pack support, and render distance on a slider.
Not saying it doesn't need fixing. But it does have a solution other than waiting for Mojang to get around to it.
The OP is not alone and it's not his keyboard. I have the same problem, but only when I'm playing in windowed mode
That's interesting, I only play on windowed mode and it happens to me quite often even when I don't lag and with a new keyboard etc. It's usually when I tap keys a lot, but not really sure what causes it. In this case I should probably play it in full screen but it's annoying having to get out of it every 10min to check something outside of it.
Btw, how does optifine fix it?? What does it do to fix it exactly?
Updating the LWJGL did help me on my Linux box. The sticky key happened when I dragged my mouse around while pressing keys. The cursor would leave the window and I would click on the desktop. It's a known bug with X and the current version of the library. As for Windows, I wouldn't know. Notch and Jens had problems trying to update the library, but not much has been said about it.
I know some people have the problem on Windows, but the wiki doesn't talk about Windows. If you ever find out why, you should let it known.

Just open the sticky keys window and go to the correct option page to disable it.
