Randumite Here! Wondering what your going to do with Books and Quills! I'M Personally Going to start my 4th Minecraft World, I like to think Minecraft is some kinda block planet and each side of that block is nearly endless, somehow. So I have A Zone 1, my main world. Zone 2, My Well...not very much played World... and Zone 3 my played-ish World.
But once I start Zone 4 I can keep a JOURNAL! With the books and all, so I'm looking forward to that!
But....What are you going to do with them? Use this thing below to state what your going to do...
Good question actually.
It's a fun idea, but i'll probably stay with signs, since they're so much faster to make, and i doubt anyone i know would check chests for info from me.
In other words - I'm sure they'll help map makers, but i don't see myself using them much.
Maybe I can write little poems. Maybe I can keep inventory of my inventory. Perhaps I should make some survival guides or something. I'd love to write an "official" brewing guide book. Or maybe write a book and distribute copies of it in an attempt to convert the villagers to communism. No, I am not Russian.
Hey, that gives me an idea: A craftable printing press that duplicates books!
A journal sounds like a fun idea. I think I might try making a recipe book for Harvestcraft when the 1.3 update comes and that mod updates for it. A to do list or checklist in game might be handy too, since I tend to get a bad case of scatter brain every time I play.
I made a log or guest book at an NPC village at the midway point of a subway I made from near the edge of the main town area to the village with another subway from there to the nearest jungle we found far out on an old map. The server is a separate vanilla test server used to test new versions and snapshots (currently 12w17), but the map was originally from 1.0 release I think.
I specifically said to write whatever they want and then [Close] the book, and NOT to [Sign] the book, which ends it so nobody else could write to it.
The main Bukkit server is running 1.2.5 with multiple worlds from as far back as 1.7.3 beta (where many of us have can switch creative/survival), including a new 1.2.5 hard "survival only" world with separate inventory (where we start out with nothing when we first /mv tp there). They also have a development server used to test plugins for new versions before going live on the main server.

Offhand, I will use them as logs to record coordinates of landmarks and important locations of things like dungeons, strongholds, villages, mountains and caves I would eventually like to build on, etc, etc. I usually have an extensive tunnel network in my worlds so I can travel without being bothered by mobs so having a book of coordinates would also help me keep track of where I want to dig additional tunnels too!
Nothing because they are pretty much useless in SSP.
What? No. Think of the possibilities. Coordinates for dungeons, mineshafts, caves, diamonds, ores, etc. A brewing guide. A crafting recipe book so you never forget the recipe for anything. And, you could make a journal, or short stories.

Why am I here when I could be a productive member of society?

Coordinates - Nothing a sign can't do, which I can see without doing anything and it doesn't waste an inventory space. Or I could use good old fashion pen and paper on my desk so I have it all the time.
Brewing/Crafting - I know the recipes. If I rarely forget, a trip to the wiki won't kill me, but copying the whole damn thing will.
Journal/Short Stories - For who to read? Plus this isn't school, if I don't want to do it there, I most certainly don't want to do it in a game.
I plan on starting a new world, then on my first night hunt down all the appropriate ingredients for a Book and Quiver, then use it as a journal. I am also using it in a map I started making last night, but I doubt it will see the light of day since I usually abandon all of my large projects for some reason.

What do you plan on using Book & Quills for?:
What will their uses in multiplayer be?:
Will you develop a secret code with symbols :P?:
Whatever I didn't miss:

How does 'minecraft letters' sound like as a feature secton?

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Jk.
adventure maps and journals.
Probably public libraries or sending each other messages.
With ROT13 yes.

Also, I'm going to look up all of the lewd ascii art I can find and write Ye Olde Booke oft Porne.
