I have found some grass growing underwater. I went to the wiki page which said that grass is supposed to not grow underwater. Is this a bug or a new feature in 1.2?
Do you have the clear water mod activated? That causes grass to grow under water. I've only seen it as part of Optifine but it might be possible to download the mod alone.
Heh, yea, me too. Thanks, I hadn't considered the clear water from Optifine. Was driving me nuts!
(Vanilla Minecraft NO MODS)honestly I've seen tall grass underwater in my world. and ive found grass under water that I've placed up to 10 days (minecraft or real seen both) after the water was placed, the game glitches sometimes and does weird things.
Why in the world would Optifine allow Grass to grow underwater? It looks ugly underwater
Because it's part of an option for clear water which makes water more realistic and less pure blue, it apparently also lets enough light through to grow grass underwater.
Grass can also, apparently, grow underwater if there is a certain amount of light.
Though that possibly could have been patched by now.

One of Optifine's settings (Clear Water) essentially removes the 2-light-level diffusion from water blocks, allowing light to penetrate through water normally. This then allows underwater dirt to meet the grass spreading requirements (strong light, transparent block on top).
