when does jeb give us the possibility to craft diamonds out of coal?

Is anyone saying same-sex couples can't love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?" –Rick Santorum
Well, that might make me a hypocrit in that case. I like regrowing wool but dislike the idea of a nether brick recipe. Once you find a ruin that's an estimated 4000 or more netherbrick, and that's just one ruin.
@BlueMagic: Have a problem fighting ghasts to get there? Bat away their bombs with your bare hand, don't forget you can stand still and watch their bombs fly way over your head..
Basically my argument is that once you find it, it's in such mass quantity that there would be no need for a recipe. Being able to cook a material into nether bricks and then crafting them into nether brick blocks would be cool, but once again there are so many in one ruin.
It's hard to reflect their bombs on a server. And my main point was, it took ten hours to find a fortress. The ghasts didn't take up that much time, but were still annoying.
Also, if you don't like a recipe, just don't complain about it and don't use it. So what if there's plenty of nether brick? It's hard to find, and some people want to preserve the beauty of the fortress. I don't see how adding a recipe would harm anyone.

First of all: Ten hours? I'm sure you've exaggerated a bit, or you were going along the X-axis. If it's the latter, they're rarer that way.
Second of all: The thing is, a recepie wouldn't hurt.
But just really quick, think of Stone bricks. Their recipe? Four SMOOTH stones for four bricks. You need to spend one coal to make eight bricks, unless you have an enchanting table, and even then it's still a random occurance for Silk Touch to pop up. You would need to kill monsters, with higher level enchantments demanding more enemies killed. And every time you hit an enemy, your sword loses a use, so you also need to keep swords and bows ready in case one breaks, and your bows can run out of arrows, which means you need to kill chickens that may or may not exist. Oh, and also, Silk touch doesn't guarantee that smooth stone drops from stone.
See how much goes into stone bricks? Sure, the recipe is simple, but the process for the material is a lot harder than just placing four blocks in the middle of a grid. If Nether bricks ever get a recipe, it will most likely have a similar process for the raw materials.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way, just because your mod has "found a challenging way to obtain every single "challenging" item except clay." doesn't mean that people will be falling head-over-heels to make all their mods compatible with it. Nor will the players with a preference for vanilla MC care about it (or any other mod, for that matter)
Nether brick is basically a renewable resource; nether fortresses will continue to generate in new nether chunks until you run out of room on your hard drive. So they are like flowers, logs, lava, water, grass, dirt, stone, mossy and regular cobblestone, clay, sand, coal, iron, diamond, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, villages (and all the blocks involved with those), netherrack, soul sand, sandstone, gravel, vines, and I am probably forgetting a few. Those are all blocks that you basically have an infinite source of and most of them have no recipe. Just like nether brick.......
It doesn't have a recipe because Notch was a lazy ass who threw things into the game with little thought and work. Most of the work Jeb did when he took the lead was to finish all the crap that Notch left half finished. SMH
The Nether fortress generation was actually added by Jeb.
[...]And my main point was, it took ten hours to find a fortress.[...]
Wow really? I've found at least 3 and they were all accidental; like "hey look, towers of Nether brick over yonder!" There are 2 rather close to the area where we first entered the Nether on my server.
It doesn't need a recipe. Not everything needs a recipe. Find a nether fortress, collect the bricks, use what you get. If you're so anal about not being able to have unlimited building supplies, play creative.
My thoughts exactly. I like that blocks like Mossy Cobblestone, Mossy Stone Brick, and Cracked Stone Brick are rare and limited. I salvage all of the Mossy Cobblestone from dungeons I find and have almost a chest full. I completely tore down a Stronghold and ended up with a large chest and a half of Stone Brick and at least a regular chest full of Mossy Stone Brick and another chest full of Cracked Stone Brick. This way, I can be satisfied that no one else on my server can readily build using the same materials as I can.

Smooth stone, cook cobble man. Silk touch isn't needed for that. Its more like, find coal or trees to make charcoal, put fuel and and cobble in furnace, SMOOTH STONE. Its not that hard.
Oh, and also, Silk touch doesn't guarantee that smooth stone drops from stone.
Really? I always thought that using a silk touch pick on stone will always drop stone and not cobblestone (with the possible exception of when you're digging around in a stronghold).

It's certainly fair to be open for proper debate.. instead of some of the flippant and insulting comments that have been made, dismissing it out of hand. It seems people don't think things through, this is extremely parallel with the color dyes issue.
I don't know if this is partially directed towards me, but I'll reply like it is all the same. To be fair, I never actually stated what side I was on. My response to Scrubking was towards his arrogant certainty for why there isn't a recipe to begin with. I admit, my response to Mr_Dyson was flippant...I've just had some bad discussions lately over things going on in my university in which the terms "need" and "want" have been swapped and re-swapped. It is frustrating.
Anyways, like many things, I would like to see a recipe for Netherbrick but I wouldn't lose any sleep if it doesn't get one. I see the merits of having a nonrenewable form of brick (akin to mossy and cracked stone brick). It would add some sentimental value towards building things with it. Then again I view the effort to actually build anything impressive, not including material gathering, to be the most important factor in the build's value.
First of all: Ten hours? I'm sure you've exaggerated a bit, or you were going along the X-axis. If it's the latter, they're rarer that way. I guess you're right; I might have been going along the X-axis. However, I didn't know that was bad at that time, and in order to go along the other axis, I would have to either cross a huge sea of lava, or get bored digging a tunnel through a wall (which I actually tried, but got really bored in doing so).
Second of all: The thing is, a recepie wouldn't hurt.
But just really quick, think of Stone bricks. Their recipe? Four SMOOTH stones for four bricks. See how much goes into stone bricks? Sure, the recipe is simple, but the process for the material is a lot harder than just placing four blocks in the middle of a grid. If Nether bricks ever get a recipe, it will most likely have a similar process for the raw materials. Barely any effort goes into stone bricks. I can't see how throwing cobblestone and coal (which are already plentiful) into the furnace then crafting them into stone bricks takes much effort. Absolutely no need to waste silk touch on something like smooth stone. It is very easy to craft stone swords; I don't see whats wrong with breaking them. Chickens can easily be farmed with wheat, I don't use much arrows anyways. It is easy to make stone bricks. And what does this have to do with netherbrick recipes hurting others? I was saying that a recipe for nether brick would not harm any players since it is completely optional to use.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way, just because your mod has "found a challenging way to obtain every single "challenging" item except clay." doesn't mean that people will be falling head-over-heels to make all their mods compatible with it. Nor will the players with a preference for vanilla MC care about it (or any other mod, for that matter) That's not my point. What I was trying to say is that adding recipes to make things renewable will by no means remove challenge from the game. Why would I go off topic and randomly talk about a mod I'm making? I brought it up to support my argument that netherbricks should be renewable.I have no idea how you thought I was telling people to prepare their mods to be compatible with mine. It seems to me you are just trying to sidestep an argument you can't argue against (though it could be that you just misunderstood me).
So it seems like you misunderstood what I was trying to say. I have clarified my arguments in italics.
Its not the hardest there thing to get, and the fortresses have alot of nether brick pillars around them that can be" mined, and make the "beautiful" better looking. If you want all the blocks go easily go to creative. And how does it take 10 hours to find one!? Dont travel along the x axis!

I don't like to mine nether fortresses because of their ancient value (in a way, kind of similar to how people today don't like to damage historical sites). One of the main aspects of minecraft is adding challenge to building (you have to go get the resources yourself instead of getting them for free); going to creative mode would completely destroy the point. Traveling along the z-axis for me would either be very time-consuming (building a bridge over a huge lava sea while avoiding ghasts), or very boring (digging a monotonous tunnel and constantly having to repair my pickaxe).
Argument for Nether Brick (and other craftable blocks):
Servers have limits.
You can endlessly generate as much as you want on your own computer, but servers have limits and (hopefully) more than one person. The server I play on, for example, is a large community server (20 regular users, probably a hundred in total?) that has server limits of 8000 blocks each way in the overworld (fairly certain that Nether is cut to 1000 each way).
Having no recipe means that these blocks are not replaceable for anyone who wants to use them but can't because they have already been mined out. It's a good thing no one mines out much of them for that very reason, saving them for times when folks actually have a project to use them for.
I understand your arguments for "trophy blocks". I find them stupid, really, but hey, your opinion. I would just like the ability to somehow make Netherbrick from (useless) Netherrack. Something tedious would satisfy you "trophy" hunters as large supplies would take a lot of digging to achieve with a tedious method. Just like there should be ways of legitly obtaining more mossy cobble, and mossy and cracked stone brick, and the upcoming circle stone brick and heiroglyph sandstone. You "trophy hunters" can go out and look for them en masse. You don't have to have to use the recipes to make them and can proudly exclaim "I gathered all this by hand" as you show off your double chests full of the things, but others can use tedious recipes to built actual structures out of these blocks as to prevent the hogging of blocks in SMP.
Example of tedious recipe:
Nether Brick
Smelt Netherrack -> 1 Netherrack Brick
Craft Nine Netherrack Bricks -> 1 Netherrack Brick
This way it requires 576 blocks of Netherrack (9 stacks) and a ton of Coal, Charcoal, Lava or Blaze Rods to make a single stack of Nether Brick. It could be toned down to four bricks per block (256 Netherrack for 64 Nether Brick) but it is quite tedious.
This way it requires a ton of seeds to get a decent stack of mossy cobble. And by a ton, I mean 512 Seeds per stack. Could be toned down to 4 Seeds per block (256 per stack) but that is still a lot.
Mossy Stone Brick
Craft Stone Brick and 8 Seeds -> 1 Mossy Stone Brick
This way it requires a ton of seeds to get a decent stack of mossy brick. And by a ton, I mean 512 Seeds per stack. Could be toned down to 4 Seeds per block (256 per stack) but that is still a lot.
Cracked Stone Brick
Erm... no idea actually.
But, you see, your precious trophies can be kept as trophies while those who are actually interested in using them for more than trophies can do so without fear of running out.
Honestly "because nether fortresses are unlimited" is not a good enough to not have a recipie for it. The more blocks we have to build with the more creative people can be. Restricting it because it's a "badge of honor" when it really isn't, is dumb. You always end up with more netherrack then you know what to do with so we should have the ability to refine it. Even a "refined netherrack" as an intermidiate block would be a nice addition. Then you craft that into bricks, don't like the extra steps then you're more then welcome to harvest it.

So how about diamonds? Should they become renewable aswell? Because i realy like building with diamond blocks! Oh and i also realy like gold blocks!
Fortune. Some people on my server (like me, for example) have several stacks of Diamonds from using one Diamond Fortune pick, and more Diamond is generated per chunk. 1000 x 1000 chunks is a lot of room for getting all the Diamonds you need.
Also Gold is renewable. Zombie Pigman trap makes it easy to get enough.
Though really, you're comparing apples and oranges. These ultra-hard to obtain blocks like Diamond Blocks are fine with me. They take investment, and are truly a sign of your efforts.

I have found 3 fortress within 500 bloc range from our nether portal on our server. I have mined about 3000 bloc of brick from 1 of them, my friend mined a few thousand too and that fortress is still there with our blaze farm. And we haven't mined the 2 other I found yet. I bet that to ran out of nether brick you have to be building something insanely big.
Actually I'm more worried about glowstone than netherbrick.
