The head thing isn't the only problem here: the mobs just seem so robotic and sterile now. Maybe if Jon were to add unique quirks to each type of mob(e.g: dogs like to explore, creepers like to swim in water, etc.), they would seem more playful. Just my two cents.
I don't get what all the fuss is about...my wolves still look around randomly when sitting idle. And the way they all look at you when you walk up to them; that's normal, they always have.
Is it because my wolves were "born" sometime in beta? Does this only apply to new wolves?

have them sit and walk away from them and see what they do.
I've actually discovered what the problem is. The new AI system's method for keeping certain tasks from happening at the same time seems to be preventing wolves from sitting and looking around simultaneously. This could be fixed by changing the mutexbit() value of the EntityAILookIdle class, for any modders interested in doing this with their mods.
I loved the old system mydog would stare out the window and then at the door then turn to my and tilt his head it was like he wanted to go outside so we went out side. Unfortunatly this was on my giant tower house he jumped and died. But I get attched to the dogs I get they are so much more easy to understand when the randmoly push you off something it seems like the dog is apoligizing with this newrobit like things its like. ROBOT REVOLUTION KILL ALL OF HUMANITY!
It looks like this should be fairly easy for Mojang to solve, it's just an oversight of the mutexbits system. All that's left is to bring it to their attention. Keep the thread alive, guys!

Is anyone saying same-sex couples can't love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?" –Rick Santorum
The issue is the movement nerfing. As we all know, mobs no longer move if you are outside a certain radius. At all. Unfortunatly, this coinsides with the LOS of wolves, which are programmed to look at you if they are sat. So if you move within their movement radius, they become fixated on you. If you move out of it, they freeze. THe movement nerfing was put in to prevent lag (an issue I never had, but there you go). It would be a simple matter to add in a line and a button in the options that said "Dynamic Movement". Turning it on would mean any mob in a loaded chunk, no matter how far away, would be free to move. Turning it off would initiate the movement freeze. PC is an odd platform because strangely the best off are the ones that get punnished, either by console games being optimised for a 7 year old system with almost no UI, or by the fact that PCs are expensive, so most people have old ones. I am afraid, unless mojang try to optimise the code or add in more options, those of us with decen spec pcs will suffer a duller, less interesting, game.
Wrong. It's a bug that makes it so that wolves can't sit and have their idle animation at the same time. I've tested this. It's just a bug, it's not intentional.
Agreed. This is why I can't have wolves. Also, they die really, really quick. My wolf + my mob trap= I have to do all the killing.... COM'ON ZERO ITS HALF A HEART YOU CAN KILL EM!
By socialize with villagers, do you mean eating their livestock and children? As that would probably happen especially with the new AI.

Yeah, I see it now. That is a bit odd.
I am not safe until 1.3.
If you miss them, you can download my mod, I fix this issue. Obviously it still needs to be fixed for vanilla though.
they seem to not notice you unless you are straight up on their faces almost

As such, I'm reviving it.
