If you havent, get them in minecarts then push them, or make about 100 rails and put the minecarts on the rails and when they get past X rails mine them out and put them back infront, to save materials, and i spelt Minecart minecraft about 100 times while typing this...
Great suggestions but this is ridiculous! Jeb or John need to make cooked food a way to make villagers follow you - just like wheat does for animals when you hold it out! Anyone agree this would be a total time saver?? (and easy to implement!!)
use a axe for destroying the cart. It's a one click ;). also use pickaxe to destroy the tracks (seems obvious, but i found it out pretty late though ^^)
i recommend to make a villager train, with at least 2, but better 4 villagers (so they breed faster at your destination). Avoid curves, because then it can happen that the train will collide at the curve, pushing some wagons back (with a pretty high force, and since minecarts with someone inside has no "internal brake", you need to run after the cart a long way to get them back).
A plain straight is the best method for this.
when arrived at the destination, lock them together (build a wall or dig a hole), then make some doors/houses. Just make sure they stay together. Then it's just a matter of time to get babies from them
I dont know if it is possible that they breed when they are in minecarts? I saw recently a villager with hearts over him, but inside a minecart. Couldnt determine the partner though, also i couldnt see any babies produced.
No, on a completely legit server, with no mods and no tricks, it is never okay to spawn. If he spawned anything, it wouldn't be legit anymore. First you spawn 2 villagers, because moving them was a slight pain. Then you spawn some smooth stone, because youre just a touch short on coal. Next thing you know, half your town is spawned materials. Legit is nothing spawned. At all, be in 5,000 diamonds, or 2 villagers.
As for moving them, I also reccomend minecarts, however, try it with a powered cart at the rear. 2 people working together would be great. one person lays tracks down in front of the train (4 npc carts being pushed by 2-4 powered carts) and the other person pours water or uses a pickaxe to scoop up the rails that have been passed over, then they switch. shouldnt take too long really to go 2500 blocks with 8 carts, 4 furnaces, 80~ coal, and 140 tracks
This thread has been pretty helpful. I just ran ~700 blocks and found a village, but I don't like it too much. Specifically I hate the way villages look, and I don't like this one's location. (I think there is a skeleton spawner right beneath the village and the noise is annoying)
I think I've raided enough mineshafts to move all the villagers in one trip!
I basically use that method now. i mainly use water to remove the tracks (dont put water directly on the tracks or you will lose 1) and i have about 5 stacks of tracks for my disposal to the next "checkpoint". But it works well, i let breed at the checkpoints until i have 4 villagers, then i choose 2 for travel and so on. yeah, it takes a lot of time, but i have to do it only once and never again.
god i hate people like you "IM COMPLETELY VANILLA, LEGIT, NO MODS NO TRICKS EVEN THOUGH IM ADMIN" lol. get real its a game people like you have nothing better to do then do it the "legit" way rather than just spawn em in?
It's good to know that you hate me.
Seriously though; A person can have more than one world that they play in, ones with mods, ones without etc.
My favorite worlds of all time though have always been the ones where I never "cheated". The sense of accomplishment in those worlds made the game far richer and more enjoyable for me than any other world ever did, even kept me playing this game.
That said: I will be selecting a number of mods to add to my new worlds that I think represent things that should be in Vanilla, things that add to the experience I am looking for and do not feel like "cheating". Cart Mod is one of them, of course I am biased regarding it.
I'm about to do the same thing, and also trying to keep a 100% legit server. I guess I'm lucky that the village is only 1600 out in one direction; but thats still quite a distance. (Even more lucky that the village is on top of an abandoned mine, a sign perhaps?)
A stone sword is a one-hit kill too. And water is the fastest way to remove minecart tracks. Just dump a bucket NEAR the tracks (not on top!!) and they will all pop out of the ground.
I used the water method quite a while until it was really annoying that the water flows down the hill if there is a lower point "reachable" for the water. So my water was flowing in the wrong direction and it took more time experimentating the best spot for putting the water than just using a pickaxe to remove the tracks

Doing things legit always makes you feel good. If you spawned, lets say, 50 blocks of diamond and put them in a museum, it wouldn't feel as good as having even just one block of legit diamond in there. What would amaze people more? Saying "Hey, look! I spawned 50 blocks of diamonds!" or "Look at this diamond I got it deep in the minecraft world after hours of exploring and almost being killed several times!"? It feels good having a sense of accomplishment that you earned something the fair and hard way.
