I want more Ocean content, but it seems that the desert is getting an overhaul this update.
I would like more ocean content as well but as I'm reading what everyone else is saying. It seems like 1.3 should be an update about bug fixes and gameplay improvments.
As much as I hate oceans and the end as they are. We do need a bug fixing update.

If Facebook, Google Plus, Tumblr, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
I think that The End should get a complete overhaul, along with more work done to the villagers. The one thing that dissapointed me in 1.2 was that although villagers got their defense, they still can't repair their doors afterwards. So realistically golems are doing nothing but delaying the inevitable.
That would be cool if they turned the End into many islands and you had to explore(almost like the nether) to get around so that the dragon could kill you easier by destroying the blocks you place just to get to another island.
I think villages do need more work. At this point, if you don't wall in your villagers and light everything up, they all just die. It's pretty much all or nothing.

I want another End mob, too.
Maybe a "daddy long legs" type enemy, with extremely long, spindly black legs.
A use for powered minecarts!!!!!! I've wanted this for FOREVER. I would suggest being able to link minecarts to the backs of them up to 1-6 hauled behind it depending on the fuel... (saplings/ sticks= 1, wood=2, coal=3, blaze rods=4, lava buckets=5-6) etc. etc...
terrain generation for new height. although this may possibly mean the server i play on having to switch maps.... again. as a mountain lover, mountains going up that high is absolutely nerdgasmic.
more mobs. because everbody loves a new cool mob!
more potions. haste, waterbreathing, jumping, etc. me gusta potions!
I said the Better Than Wolves mod, because it fits with the "tech advancement" side of Minecraft.
Crafting more and more efficient mechanisms to get along better in the Minecraft world.
That's also why pistons fit so well, they're a rudimentary "rope 'n' pulley" mechanism.
I have a beef with the Mo' Creatures mod, because it makes the usually wide-open Minecraft a cluttered place, without the player's interaction. I was willing to forgive ocelots, though, because they're a perfect juxtaposition to the other friendly mobs. They don't actively protect the player, but they scare away Creepers, which wolves avoid and iron golems ignore.
Well in the end that's my point, what we see 'fit' or 'like' in or as 'vanilla minecraft' is nothing but what we want minecraft to be
the mod api would simply add choice for people like me.. in this situation 'you don't have to use it' actually makes sense
Yeah I really want them to change the way villagers look and get rid of the huge noses on the iron golems. They won't, though. Mojang just loves sucking on those big, juicy villager noses.
What I want second most of all is for endermen to actually be completed. They still don't have the really scary scream and stare sounds.
I can agree. It's a bit silly that zombies look like MC's player model, yet villagers look like squidward.
I think more features, a game were you don't even have to install mods to make it more surprising. Something that no one knows and no one will see coming.
1) Villager AI - Something you can interact with, I'm guessing this will be worked on sometime in the future.
2) Terrain Generator improvements / finalization. - They have been steadily improving on the terrain generation since 1.0 came out, I think they should focus on completing any other major ideas so that people can start a new world and have it for a while. Just a whole bunch of tweaks to make minecraft generation feel complete - improving beaches, defining biomes, adding additional biomes/variations on them, potentially reducing cave density, maybe some content for the oceans, maybe a few other terrain features.

When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
I wonder if Minecraft will ever have the same "bones" system that NetHack has.
Where, as you're wandering your world, you would see the creations of other players.
Considering Bukkit just joined Mojang, I predict mod API will be a feature that will be added not too far from now. I also would like to see a bit more of the Nether, a sky dimension with its own atmosphere and mobs, and village interactions. Lets say the additions of human and pigmen villages, they could battle against each other. I've noticed that wolves mostly spawn in Tiaga biomes, as Ocelots spawn in Jungles, I would like to see other biome-specific mobs and features as well. Perhaps pyramids and the wells in deserts, a kind of Mayan temple in jungles, shipwrecks in oceans, and so on.
Optimization, Mod Api and BUG FIXES, LOTSA BUG FIXES.
Especially Smp and how you hold chests now after 1.8.
That would be a dumb and boring patch for me...bug fixes at this point are almost a waste of time...there aren't any fatal bugs and i really want new content...i don't mod so i don't care about modding api....no bug fix patches...i want REAL content...I personally want a volcano biome....with a new ash block that falls like sand and gravel and has lava all over it and some mountains of stone with lava flowing out of them and the sky would be orange...maybe instead of rain it would be ashfall....
In my experience, bugs are either not game-breaking, or extremely rare (if you don't try to cause it on purpose). What is truly game-breaking is mod incompatibilities ;( (and I mean both having to recompile mods on each update, and mods interfering with each other).

There are no fatal bugs
(see wiki)
Uh huh, there are no fatal bugs at all. Because that's not what a developer is suppose to do AKA fix bugs.
Obviously, like most people have been saying, bug fixing and optimization. But after that, i think the new stone brick will be for jungle ruins.
and the sand catacombs. i think it would be cool if the whole ceiling for the catacombs would be sand and the wells would mark them. if you broke sand, it would cave in that would be cool. or you could mine down inside the well or something if you didn't want to ruin it.
Auto assign ids for blocks, items and sprites at start up.
More ids available.
