I understand that and never said Minecraft was a bad product, it's just squandering its potential.
Well I never accused you of saying such. I was merely suggesting the thought that sometimes maybe we need to factor in that maybe it's not just the product but also us, especially when you start talking time spans of years.
The last part of this statement is a matter of opinion. Everyone has their own opinion of how the game "should" or "could" be and it's going to be impossible to satisfy everyone. You're saying it's not changing enough, but many others are saying it's changing too much. Most things will tend to err towards not changing so much they alienate too many of the existing base.
I like the new structures, though I'll admit that I haven't played vanilla Minecraft in over 10 years because I've never been a fan of the standard progression mechanics. It seems like a lot of people who dislike the abundance of structures dislike them for progression reasons, which is entirely understandable tbh. I personally focus way more on the vibes/feelings that the structures and things give, since I've never really cared about finding diamonds, enchanting weapons, getting a lot of loot, etc (and anyway, I often have mods that add like 50 ores and more complex progression to the game, so chests are very unlikely to contain high-tier loot for me).
Anyway, yeah, I can get why people don't like how many structures there are now, and that seems like a legitimate irritation to have.

I enjoy the vibes too as a vanilla player. Archaeology is actually great fun.
Maybe this ties into what Mage_of_Cats said about progression, but I think some of the main issues (and criticisms) with structures are that there aren't really good reasons to visit them. They don't really contain much unique loot (and probably can't, since unrenewable loot could be problematic on servers), especially for non-decorative purposes. 1.20 might have changed this to some extent with Netherite upgrades, armor trims and archaeology; I haven't been following the update very closely.
In any case, I definitely think structures add life to the world, and the above criticisms relate more to large structures such as woodland mansions and temples than smaller structures like ruins.
IMO some types of structures are better than others, I'd love to see more like the jungle and desert temples, but things like villages really break early game balance with having beds, tons of food and sometimes diamond. More underground structures would be really nice, because that part of the game really lacks a lot of variety. Personally, I don't think shipwrecks are that bad, makes boating around less boring.
From archaeology you can get decorative armour trims, decorative pots, sniffer eggs (which give you...flowers and more sniffers), and existing things like emeralds, candles, tools, glass, and a bit else. It's not terrible loot but not something I'd cry over losing (e.g. when I shovel sus silts by accident).

I think the frequency of structures is okay (if a bit low), but the world needs more variety in structures.
They should focused to fix issues than adding new biomes, mobs, and structures.
