Trees only require a unique type of leaves in order to drop their own saplings; I haven't added any new wood types but added 8 new leaf blocks and saplings so every type of tree I added, and even some vanilla trees, can be grown (some reuse vanilla saplings, e.g. spruce saplings can randomly grow into a larger 1x1 variant (like vanilla's oak and big oak), as well as 2x2 and 3x3 trees; "poplar" is a variant of birch; swamp and dark oaks use the same leaves/saplings (a single sapling grows a swamp oak, 2x2 grows dark oak); and oak/spruce "bushes", like the ones in jungles, grow if there isn't enough space for a normal tree above them). According to the Wiki azalea leaves may drop azalea, which must be bonemealed in order to grow into a tree (they do not grow on their own, similar to mushrooms):
I'm just glad they and the swamp trees have an actual wood type whereas azaleas reuse oak (and thus I do not know how to grow them tbh).
Mangroves are unique in that they can be grown while water logged as well, where as any block that is adjacent to a sapling to my knowledge for other tree types would obstruct it and therefore prevent their growth in the game, although paradoxically, these trees with solid blocks adjacent to them can be generated on world creation and are common to find in forests.
In the case of most saplings, they would come loose if you attempted to run water on them. But mangroves are different, and I do agree they are an excellent way to add foliage to your surroundings if say your base is on a beach or island.
I wouldn't say azalea tree is terrible, but I do agree that it reusing oak is lame.
Every other newer tree that got added to the game also had a different wood type, different textures and colours for both the logs and the planks, so there is no excuse.

Trees will still grow in one block holes but not much more than that. The game will have to keep trying until it rolls a tall type I guess.
I think everything in the April 1st snapshot should be added to minecraft in update 1.20, there will be a minecraft moon, space cows, potions that if thrown at the player turn to life, I think it could be one of the coolest things to come out to minecraft if they added 1 in April for update 1.20

a) No. Even if the AF updates weren't out of this world, they never get put in seriously.
i see your complaint about the end needing an update, and i agree with it. i feel like it should feel like a barren wasteland, because i think thats what the devs intended to make it feel. i would like it to live there though
had dto dso a new login. sucks. don't know how to get old logon. anyway, i still am playing on xbox but i don't get any of the new stuff. i add the new stuff when i start a new game but still have not found the cherry trees and i srill can't find the butied cities or the warden. probably that is goode. other than that itt is still immposibl3e to find diamond at -54.
"I had listened to the points being brought up when discussing the topic Netherite upgrading templates from a Youtube video which I heard from a friend over his mic who was listening to it while watching a Youtube video about it and I can't say I like the features of 1.20
Players are now being forced to put in more work for the same item that existed in the game since 1.16, worse, some of the chests that are supposed to contain the templates don't even do that, so we could end up short-changed when we get to a Bastion to try to find them, essentially wasting our time. Why isn't there enough pressure from the fandom to demand Mojang to reverse this? I don't remember seeing anyone asking for this feature to be added which is basically a very bad nerf to netherite gear."
Whether or not Microsoft will allow this post to be submitted I am uncertain of, it's pending review, but regardless I also know somebody else who doesn't like this feature about 1.20 update either.
There are some good things I saw about 1.20 such as pottery, archaeology and cherry blossom trees, but nothing which actually improves the game on a fundamental level. And cherry blossom and its wood type could've been added in previous updates, it's a very minor change. Nothing ground breaking here, no pun intended. And the fact they're going to force people to find templates just to craft netherite gear, with some of the bastion chests being empty, this negates anything which is good about 1.20 in my honest opinion. I don't believe my post will make it past pending review as knowing developers of this game, they can't take criticism, but they do need to know what their fans think of them or nothing will ever change for the better.
Lots of people paid good money for licensed copies of this game, so our opinion should count for something

There's not a real need to grow azaleas in my eyes, sure they look pretty but that's all, I only like using their leaf blocks to mix in with other leaves, and how often is there a need to use rooted dirt?

Azaleas don't even have a wood type of their own which is a valid point allyourbasesaregone brought up
Cherry Blossom on the other hand, despite the complaints about 1.20 update I made about a different feature, I do admit they are good and interesting.
Moss blocks can be useful because they can be used to make moss carpets, in contrast to wool carpets, these have a texture that doesn't look ugly in gardens and are good items to hide light sources in. The alternative is the awful looking torch spamming or laying lanterns or jack o lanterns all over the place in garden areas of our builds, or hiding glowstone underneath leaf blocks.
I don't do torch spamming unless I really have to, because they are never a good looking alternative to lamp posts, desk lamps
or ceiling lights, which can sometimes be made from sea lanterns or end rods.

Couldn't agree more with the last sentiment. I'll only torch spam in the beginning just to keep it lit enough and the mobs away until such time that permanent light/lamposts/lighting can be put in place. Over torch spam in builds is just a big no for me.
I also like the moss blocks and the new cherry trees for aesthetics and the blossom layer but the rest of the update, is a pass for me also. I don't hate them of course, but they're very neither here nor there for me. I only moved my world from 1.19.1 to .3 as I'm now using a forge version, there isn't enough for me to move my world past 1.20 at this point.

And because torches don't work against every hostile mob in the game, if playing on normal or hard difficulty, the Pillagers are unaffected by light level. I play on normal on my current world, in one of the previous 5 survival worlds I had created over the years, I used to play on hard, but due to a problem a friend was having with Bastions I had to gear it down for him as a compromise to encourage him to play on my server, Brutes became too much for him especially when outnumbered, plus Piglin steal dropped armour and weapons, so this is understandable.
Torches are no longer as useful as they once were, so it's not just the aesthetics. Over the years, Mojang have shifted the goalposts or the requirement in spawn proofing which is creating problems for builders like us who want to stop hostile mobs from harassing us while we work on our stuff.
Of course we get the usual "Git gud scrub" or "go play on creative" comments but people are forgetting that survival mode wasn't always like this, lighting, half slabs and transparent blocks used to be a very reliable way of stopping mobs from attacking our bases in the Overworld, so it shouldn't be difficult for people to understand why people who are used to the old rules of the game, would feel alienated by the new rules. And I have doubts this trend of development will ever take a turn for the better, because the people in the Mojang development team are obsessing over the idea of making survival more punishing for everyone, instead of adding alternatives like a grief mode where hostile mobs simulate a griefing player for those who want an unforgiving survival experience.
i understand ghast hunters comments. i have been playing since maybe 2000 when working as a school tech with 2000. i remember microsoft getting min3ecraft and getting a free licence to play but didnt do much with it. i didn't build any massive worlds, just played to understand. but i do still play to build a beginning world to discovwer things. have not been to the other world as long as i have been playing. its like to mystwerious for me. left hand is giving me fits tonight. anyway, 1.20 seems the same as 1.16 because a new world is still the same. i do choose the embessisments but never have seen the cherry grovwes or for3sts. nevw3r have found the worden yet. never have seen the underground cities so am not even sure if they exist. now my main game to get away from real life3 is stardew valley. havent gotten a long ways in that game and it is a challenge but i feel more relaxed after than i feel with minecraft. minecraft is very difficlut when you cant find diamonds now. i can spend three days playing looking for diamonds so i can survive topside. oh well. life goes on. ...

left hand is numb from military injury. wrist broke in japan, corpman tried to reset it ok but not a good job in Yokosuka. my finger hit the wrong keys now if i don't pay attention. i really have trouble using the controller. and have to use the controller because adsw is impossible to use for move3me3nt. ;hope this is succinct.

Yes I understand, that sounds really sucky, I'm sorry.
so much stuff is coming and it's all different from the new game i started the other day. it was the same as the past. nothing new. will start a new game after i download the june 7th release.
The 1.20 update isn't that bad, (I love the new cherry wood textures) but if you expect me to sit here and play the yes man, you've got the wrong guy. I absolutely despise the new world creation screen, with its absurd rigidity and dark grey color. It is too professional, and they are trying far too hard to appeal to a new audience. I abhor the new death screen, which is basically a blocky copy of GTA's death screen. I grew up with the old death screen, which is not only nostalgic, it looked better in my opinion. You won't get everyone to along with every new update feature, I get that, but it feels like Minecraft is changing what people loved about the game, and that's not cool.
Huh, okay, the more you know. Thank you TMC
Hold up, 4x4 trees for dark oak in goles? I know regular oak trees become giant when in holes but not dark...
