Totally! That is the entire reason I started to play Minecraft. If I was feeling like I could do some work, I can farm on my survival world. If I feel like fighting, I log on to Hypixel to break beds and increase meaningless stats that increase my ego (lol).
I never take high value armour to the End. I put in an end chest and whip it out for end cities. Or I put it in a chest with minecart for the dragon fight.
Yeah bringing in rare gear in general into End is asking for trouble
Shulker boxes are worth the risk though and here is why,
because you can store them in the ender chest, and extract the shulker boxes in the middle of endstone islands as needed.
If you plan on spending a long time in End collecting loot, then you need the extended inventory space.
If you die, all your gear in ender chest is safe, just respawn and pick out the loot you collected, you gain more than you would lose.

which is why I said they're dangerous, farming their slowness arrows isn't without risk.

I always admire the really smart ideas people come up with in this game, seriously. I don't think I've ever defeated an end city 100% though.
And about strays, what Dragon said, slowness is not doing much to a well protected player. Just hit from far with a looting sword offhand, use strafing, or build a farm with a skeleton spawner. It's far from impossible, and currently the latter can be done even in the nether.
I can see why, of course more elytras and shulkers can spawn on more outer islands, but the further out you go the bigger the risk is.
Because you cannot make an End portal on the outer islands, getting back isn't going to be quick.
at some point the risk becomes too big for the reward because of that.
What? Don't you know about the random remote portals that spawn everywhere in the End? They all take you back to the center island. All you need is an ender pearl to teleport into one, or as of 1.14 a trapdoor or other device to force yourself to crawl into it.

Random isn't guaranteed, sometimes it can take hours to return home, or if you're really unlucky, it could take days or weeks to find one.

I guess some seeds are better than others. On my Realm, End City was only an island away. Nobody wanted to bridge because we were messing around and were daring each other to knock people off.

And also I hope you were playing in a recent version, because in older versions end city chests would get destroyed by ladder generation, meaning you had a race against the clock before the items despawned once the chunks loaded.

I raided an End City in less than 30 minutes with 3-4 of my Realm friends. Other than that, I have never ventured to an End City in survival.

I just save the coordinates of the entry point somewhere and then explore. Either that or build huge cobblestone pillars to track my progress.

I find they're not super uncommon. I find one within a kilometer anywhere I go.

Yes, and leather has a purpose too now by the same token.
I wonder if leather armour protects skeletons from straying?
All we need now is chainmail armour being useful...
