So far, can't tell if 1.14.1 pre-1 fixed the major lighting issue. So far can only verify that areas affected by the lighting issue before 1.14.1 pre-1 are still dark, unsure if 1.14.1 pre-1 prevents the issue from happening in the first place.
Please post here, if you can verify that the darkness lighting issue is still occurring in 1.14.1 pre-1
I am on an online server and everyone who is online is having the same problem. We build a base and found mobs spawning in so we put torches everywhere. At night time we check to see if there was dark place. The dark place were showing up were some of the torches were. Even the house we build is not safe from mobs spawning in because the torches stop working and have to be replace. Hope they fix it soon.
Minecraft has become completely unplayable with this lighting issue so I'm likely just going back to Empyrion Galactic Survival until it's fixed. Every time I log on the server most of the chunks haven't reloaded the torches so creepers are blowing up everywhere that spawned in the darkness. I've been playing this game 5-6 years and this is the worst problem I've ever seen.
Or has it been happening in single player as well?
I've only logged in to a couple single player games since the 1.14 update and haven't seen it there, but I haven't really played those games to see if they had the same problem and they were pre 1.14 games converted to the new update. Maybe I'll start a new single player to test it.
Bah. Just updated to 1.14.1 and logged into our Realms world. Took a minecart out to my current worksite half a kilometer down a tunnel and when I got there, zero light errors all over the place despite torches on the walls and jackolanterns on the floor, and hostile mobs were spawning despite no floor block being more than 2 blocks away from a lit jackolantern in the floor or a torch 2 blocks up a wall.
Or has it been happening in single player as well?
I haven't played single player since the update but I've logged on to a couple games to update them and I haven't seen the problem. For me, it happens most frequently after I kicked off the server momentarily, then when I log back in various chunks are dark. You would think that if you quit and reload a chunk it would re register the lighting pattern, or, there should be some command you could use from the command line that would reload the lighting in the chuck, or all chunks being loaded by the player.
Another wrinkle is that the server is at my son's house, and it doesn't happen to him. Also, I've accessed the server from 2 different locations, 5 miles apart, and had the problem from both spots.
So, the issue seems to have something to do with over the internet lag. I typically get 20-30 ms response time but after getting kicked off, I've seen it drop into the hundreds momentarily.
So far on our Realm it is only outside of the spawn chunks where the problem occurs. Since the spawn area stays continuously loaded I am guessing that keeps the bug from occurring.
Davids latest video show what he is dealing with outside of spawn.
The lighting bug is not fixed but does appear to be a little bit better from when I first noticed it in 1.14. However there now appears to be a lot more bugs will attempt to make a forum about it in a bit.
Last night my son built some kind of script, I think he said it deleted the cache, that forced a reload of all the lighting maps. This corrected all of the thousands of torches I had already laid down that were not illuminating their areas. The problem was that I was at his house, and even though I got some crashes, and the problem didn't pop back up, I still don't know if it will pop back up because he never had the problem on his end and I was always accessing remotely when it happened to me. So, I'm sure the problem's not fixed but there's a way to fix all the screwed up worlds.

can verify that the lighting issue is not fixed yet, sometimes when loading an area from the nether or end, you still get the lighting issue.

Is this something that only happens on servers?

Just testing.

1.14.2 pre-1 fixed the lighting issue (yay!) Great job Mojang!
Note so fast, I am seeing others reporting otherwise,
yeah its not fixed, it seems 4 months isnt enough time to fix this bug lol

Still broke. No better on Realm after latest release.
