Does any of those functional blocks look as if they could have something to do with fireworks? Because making firework stars is really painful, just like banners. I would love to have a "firework bench" where you can get a little preview of what your firework star looks like.
I always love to have some on me for when I do cooperative exploring. I lose my companions all the time and with the fireworks, I can show them where I am! I basically created my "firework signature" because I just love decorative fireworks in minecraft.
But, as I said: making firework stars is difficult, because you can't really see what you're doing.
The campfire is pretty neat, but I'm afraid that the Lectern and the Cartography Table do just what they say on the tin. Zooming maps takes only one sheet of paper now, but that's about it - no markers.
I'm one who prefers not to spread things over multiple crafting benches. I can understand it with banners and eventually fireworks, but have been skeptical about the rest.
HOWEVER, I have started up a snapshot world and played around with some of these things and can definitely see the appeal now of smokers and blast furnaces. Smelting things even faster is always a plus in my book. The cartography one I'm on the fence over, but having watched a video about it I can see how it would be beneficial doing it with something with a separate UI than in the crafting table itself, it makes sense why it would be separated. Lecterns - can see how it might be useful but still undecided.
I'm coming round to some of them, I just wasn't keen on having several crafting table types initially, we shouldn't have to automatically like everything just because the popular opinion is too.

i agree, multiple functional tables and blocks lead to modpack gameplay as 80% swarming in blocks gui / 20% playing
The Stonecutter works pretty much the way we suspected, with a few oddities:
1. The crafting table still retains all recipes, the Stonecutter is just more efficient. One block yields two slabs, one stairs, one wall, or one modified block. ('Modified' meaning chiseled, polished, and the like.)
2. The Stonecutter can't make smooth stone slabs. I think this has to be an oversight.
3. I have no idea why it won't work on wood products. If it can cut stone, surely it can cut wood!
With this example before us, I'm starting to suspect that the smithing table may be able to craft armor and the like using less materials?
The pattern I'm seeing with the Blast Furnace, the Smoker, and now the Stonecutter is that they are optional conveniences. The Blast Furnace and the Smoker don't replace the furnace, they're just faster. The Stonecutter doesn't replace the crafting table, it's just more efficient. I suspect the same will be true for the Smithing and Fletching Tables. I'll bet they let you craft items with fewer materials, but that the crafting table will still be able to be used for them.
I'm not sure why Mojang thought arrows needed a more efficient mode of crafting, but there you are!

Oh I most definitely would appreciate more efficient arrow crafting! Arrows are quite possibly the most annoying thing in the game for me to mass manufacture in survival because I just do not like relying on infinity enchantment as I like mending, and I do not like dealing with chickens for feathers more than I have to due to mob lag online. And it's a bother dealing with gravel for the flint. Arrows are just a pain to make in my opinion.
I think it's very much needed having more efficient arrow manufacturing, especially with crossbows coming up and how I intend to use them.
Fair enough. And the thing with Stonecutters not making smooth stone slabs has already been fixed: Now that's what I call service.
Nice, I might make good use of stonecutters myself too now for stone construction projects! Now if only making TNT could also be made more efficient somehow, cause that's the only thing worse than arrows for me that I'd like to have a lot of for engineering projects, cause gunpowder is so very hard for me to get enough of to be worth it. At least it would be nice if gunpowder gets added to revamped villager trades but that's another subject entirely.
Re: Gunpowder I've considered adding a recipe to make it from redstone, glowstone, and charcoal.
I've heard about custom recipes a lot but never got around to checking that as I felt it was almost cheaty, but maybe I should consider it I suppose, at least for my private friends server when the next update drops, we plan to have a small (with tight world border to keep it's file size small) single biome buffet taiga world so it might make sense I suppose to tweak and create recipes with that in mind. That sounds like a very balanced recipe, I like it! Would be nice if they added such to the stock game to make gunpowder more useful on any given server, especially if rocket launchers via crossbows are coming into the equation! We're going to need truckloads of powder.
Anyway I digress, not quite the topic of the thread here, just hope these blocks and new villagers trades can herald greater feasibility of some remaining things that are just a bit hard or annoying to manufacture in larger amounts.
Edit: On final thought, custom recipes, haven't checked if they can, but gives me ideas to increase challenge as well, like make diamond gear and tools require diamond BLOCKS instead of individual diamonds, I hate diamond stuff :P, it's just wrong to me. Hail iron!

I've also considered a mod to change "diamond" gear to "adamantite" - an alchemical metal made from iron and diamond. (As well as adding steel as a tier between iron and adamantite.)

If you are referring to markers on a map, you can add markers by right clicking on a banner with a map in hand. It will mark the point in the color of the banner and even show the banner's name, if the banner is custom named.

bruh this game is like skyrim with guns but without guns

I'm well aware, thanks. I and others were hoping that the Cartography Table would have other ways to mark maps, that wouldn't rely on physical objects that could be broken. Turns out that isn't the case, at least as yet.
I have mixed news for you. It will be done, but probably only in 1.15, meaning you'll have to wait another eight months instead of two.

My theory is that the new blocks will be in villages and will be used by Villagers.

Guess we'll see.

These new blocks definitely add a lot of gameplay to Minecraft and I'm hyped for 1.14
