Oddly enough, it seems that they are finally getting some progress on my suggestion I suggested 3 years ago, which I suggested that they add stairs and slabs for most blocks (within reason). The whole pillage thing, though, may seem very annoying for when you settle into a village and some pillagers come and invade your village. The scaffolding thing sounds very handy, as I usually use dirt for such a thing and gets very annoying to break when I am done with it. Still can't wait for the first snapshot to be released tomorrow...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
Looms and patterns are wonderful! They don't seem to have recipes yet, though?
Suspicious Stew seems overpowered, if it's really as simple as adding a daisy to get Regeneration. And who would ever bother eating one from a shipwreck, given that you can't predict what it'll do?
I'm not conversant enough with commands and loot tables to fully appreciate all the stuff that got added, but it looks like it adds quite a lot of flexibility.
Crossbows seem like a no-brainer compared to bows, lacking only the flexibility of enchantments.
I can take or leave the panda, given how rare jungles are. Ditto for bamboo.
I love the IDEA of the loom, but I wish they hadn't gone one block sized with it. The function it provides is fantastic.
Eh, one block is kind of traditional. It could use a sound upon being used, though.
I definitely prefer it to trying to remember a huge number of crafting recipes!
The loom could potentially be used to make other patterned cloth items in the future, too. Carpets perhaps, or the much-requested surcoats.
EDIT: Other than Quick Draw, which is practically mandatory, the crossbow enchantments seem rather specialized. Multishot has its uses, especially at point-blank range, but it can be positively dangerous if used around livestock and the like. Or God help you, zombie pigmen!
Piercing seems like it would hardly ever come up, except in mob farms or maybe dungeons.
On the whole, I rather like the new textures... Though the new gold and diamond blocks are absolutely butt-ugly.
And I really like the new 'smooth' variants, but there is one oddity: If there is any difference between smooth quartz and the block of quartz, I'm not seeing it. They look absolutely identical, at least to my eye. Ditto for the quartz slab and the smooth quartz slab, and the equivalent stairs.
Crossbow… Well, better late than never, I suppose.
I'm still waiting for spear. And some ferrum shiled. „But we already have shield.“ Yeah. So we will have low tier and high tier variant. Just like what? That's right, just like armor.
I haven't even played 1.13.2 yet, because of no forge, but scaffolding is good addition to water elevators.

Besides becoming a machine gun by filling your hot bar with crossbows, they are relatively balanced.
Bows have a higher damage output when enchanted and can have punch and flame which can further increase damage with fire and potential fall damage. They all short when dealing with large crowds but they are better at dealing with single targets. The crossbow when unenchanted might as well be a worse bow that can keep a charge without hindering movement. The crossbow cannot increase its damage but can increase its dps with quick charge making it more on par with power 3-5 bows but it will need to use more arrows (3-2 instead of 2-1). The crossbow really shines with crowd control. The multishot and piercing enchantments (you only get one or the other) are great at dealing with more than on enemy. Piercing is better at a distance with closer enemies while multishot is better and enemies that are more spread apart.
lt;dr - Bows are better vs one target while crossbows are better vs multiple targets.
Or just fill your hot bar with crossbows and machine gun down everything in your way until you need to reload. RIP
GerbilCrab475: „Besides becoming a machine gun by filling your hot bar with crossbows, they are relatively balanced.“ Not a problem in single player, and… If someone is willing to prepare that…
„Bows have a higher damage output when enchanted and can have punch and flame which can further increase damage with fire and potential fall damage.“ So add those spell for crossbow as well.
I'm not finding Multishot that useful, apart from really close-in enemies. I think it should come in levels that reduce the spread angle.
I take back what I said about Suspicious Stew being OP - they only give 5 seconds of an effect. Regeneration I gives you a whole heart back at that rate.
I'd like to see the Wither Rose wither you when you pick it, as well as when you stand in its space. And since they can survive Wither explosions, I think they should withstand flooding as well. That would make them rather scary traps, especially in numbers!
If banner creation gets its own separate crafting system, shouldn't firework stars get a similar treatment? Just for consistency. I wouldn't mind getting a firework builder block (with a fancier name) that shows a preview of what a firework star would look like.

maybe just add like 2-3 levels of power to it because you dont want it to be too op and with multishot at point blank it becomes really op, but i suppose if u had those enchants it would be great in mob grinders...
I love the loom for the simple fact that it gives us more "crafting"-type blocks (Eg blocks that craft or modify items). The last addition, iiirc, was the anvil, way back in version 1.4. I feel like they've relied too heavily on the crafting table since then.
Having played 18w43b for a bit (and I'll post my thoughts soon enough), something has occurred to me: the advancement "How Did We Get Here?" will be damn near impossible to achieve in 1.14, at least without a few tweaks to suspicious stew.
Saturation is an instant effect, like Healing and Damage.
Also, who says you need to do Dolphin's Grace first?

Wow. That is one content-heavy snapshot!

I found the recipe for the loom to be two string on top of two planks. The patterns are paper + special item.
Thanks! They must have forgotten to add the recipes to the book.

Wow, that's a bit ridiculous.

Praise be to Spode.

Does anyone have a full list of the new things, that aren't worthlessly-worded like the patch notes?
As a builder, I'm really satisfied with new slabs and stairs.
Unlike normal I found these patch notes extremely good at telling me everything, DB said going forward the patch notes should be far more helpful
At the moment, the Update seems to be nice.
I like the idea of editing Book and Squill, the Pillagers and the Beasts are an epic idea...
I absolutely love this Update.

"We've added a bunch of decorative blocks!"
....Ok, how about a list?
