Microjang's logic is so inconsistent and lop-sided! Let's add all of their flawed logic into MInecraft, shall we?
As far as I can tell, nobody has been able to come up with an actual statement from Mojang about this subject, nor can anyone point to the actual source of where this originated. In my opinion, it sounds more like an off-the-cuff remark that may or may not have been Mojang or Microsoft's official stance. Until Mojang (or one of its primary developers like Jens) provides clarification, I am just going to assume that this is just another rumor or misunderstood remark.

Actually, there is a video of the community moderator saying that, which I believe I linked in the OP.

Personally, I am not really willing to treat that as anything official, considering that nothing has come out from any of Mojangs official channels or from the Mojang developers working on the Aquatic update, nor has anything come out about that since then -- unless I have missed something.
But in the worst case scenario that someone goes and kills a shark, if the played minecraft, the game would get randomly accused, as it happened for gta and other games
Given MC allows one to jump 100m into 1m of water without harm and already allows the killing of polar bears and wolves, I don't think the argument that MS/Mj needs to be kept safe from being held responsible if someone who happens to play MC doing something either stupid or unlawful carries much weight.
MS/Mj is already subject to this sort of frivolous suit… [I recall a parody video a while back about the corp beind sued because kids were breaking their hands punching trees trying to get logs ]

I really think sharks should be added because i think it would make it harder to get loot from shipwrecks and it wont be so easy to go in the ocean without dying and getting really good loot without a problem..

I agree! Video games are specifically meant to be an escape from real life. Only toddlers who hadn't learned how dangerous sharks can be would possibly take this seriously, and anybody that young should be supervised every second.

Hey guys, I wrote a Minecraft book called The Griefer Attack! Check it out!
Absolutely stupid reasoning from Mojang here. Basically everything they said about sharks could be easily applied to wolves and it wouldn't make any more or less sense.
I feel like Mojang just doesn't want to go through the trouble to add a shark mob into the game even though it's one of the most highly requested mobs. It's especially insulting since the next update is going to focus on fleshing out the ocean...and they don't want to add what's basically one of the coolest oceanic animals and what could serve as an actual threat in the ocean outside of a naturally generated structure???
Maybe Mojang is planning a hostile fish mob like a shark, with an original name, drop, and behavior. TBH this makes even more sense than just adding sharks, because it allows the developers to not be bound by real life. It also explains why they aren't telling us and are making a excuse online, because they don't want to announce it yet.
Found this online, I think it's fake but this could be similar to what they're planning.
It's fake

It has been confirmed that dolphins will not be able to be ridden, as it would be "animal cruelty."
Now, I'm not too upset at this not being a feature for dolphins, but the reasoning is doltish in the same way as the no shark reasoning.
Same here. I don't care for rideable dolphins, but this is just stupid. How about riding pigs? How about killing farm animals for meat and leather? How about poisoning parrots with chocolate chip cookies, for the love of God!?
What next? Fish can't be caught because it's animal cruelty?

Hey everybody thank you for coming to minecon 2019 Now I would like to say we completely removed fishing for animal cruelty you can no longer hurt any animals. You can no longer tame wolfs has the bone might get stuck it's neck and kill the wolf. We have removed blocks from the game as they have feelings to. Thank you for coming have a horrible day

the PERMIT BLOCK:
whenever a player attempts a questionable action (eg. breaking tall grass, punching a tree, or changing any wetland area) this block will appear hovering directly in front of the players face (completely blocking any view of the world)…
clicking on a PERMIT BLOCK will bring up a text based interface where the player will be given the opportunity to justify that specific instance (and that specific instance ONLY) of the intended action…
replies will be judged on length (more is always better) and the inclusion of the requisite amount of buzz words… (note that copy/paste and similar cheats will be disabled)
the PERMIT BLOCK will remain in place until the permit interface has been successfully completed (Death is no excuse and no release.)
Happy "mining" and "crafting"

This may be taking accusations a bit too far, but Microsoft/Mojang is being RIDICULOUS!!! Is there some way to get them to see this post? I want sharks and dolphins in minecraft!
Also, this thread has a lot of support. Maybe we should use a petition...? But seriously people, lets get our rightfully deserved water critters BACK!!! If Microsoft/Mojang has too many angry people on their hands, they'll have to do something!

Fun Fact: They actually removed the parrot-cookie thing, and are now using as an excuse to not add sharks.

Though it seems like this thread has a lot of support to you, to Mojang/Microsoft it does not. They could care less. They wouldn't mind if you stopped playing the game and never gave them another penny. The amount of people that have commented on this post is just a small fraction of those who are still playing the game and giving Microsoft money.

The fact that sharks won't be in the game and dolphins can't be ridden really sucks the fun out of the update.
