Here's a side-by-side comparison of the old and new horse models:
As a user on Reddit pointed out, one of the issues with the horse model is that it's anatomically incorrect; the head "narrows" like a dog's instead of remaining straight like a horse's. The head also looks too big compared to the rest of the body, since the body was made smaller but not the head. I can get by the "stubby feet", if those issues were fixed.
Haven't seen anyone agreeing with the geniuses at Mojang that ruining the horse model and animations was a good thing. I'm with the masses thinking that it's just objectively a bad change. This update is going to severely neuter my enjoyment of building animal ranches in vanilla. As I said in another thread, it doesn't match the quality or complexity of recently added models, like bunnies. The change is one of pure sabotage, going along with some falsely professed ideal that Minecraft is supposed to look blocky and bad. It likely stemmed from some old, very minor drama over part of a mod being added, and looking better than what was in the game at the time. I think the Dr. Zhark horse model should be an example of what all mob models should look like, cows look stupid, and so do futile attempts to make derp horses pass inspection.
As Ravage656 said, how about improving the other models instead of downgrading the game? Making the game worse doesn't sit right to me, I don't care for the justification that Minecraft is supposed to look terrible. Of course not changing the horse model means the 3D artist who did it is being called a failure - which they pretty much are, if you look at those attempts - but being stubborn isn't a good thing here; the game is supposed to be produced for customers, not as an ego trip.
The texture changes seems like a move to get rid of or pave over anything Notch did, just for the sake of doing that. Here we contradict "Minecraft must look blocky and bad as Notch designed it." Nothing to do with improvement, everything to do with bad office politics and a lasting grudge his previous employees have against him. Unfortunately it's not even a good default replacement, but just an edit of the vanilla textures that looks like many of the worse amateur attempts. The new textures look muddy and bad, and the artist is one who holds himself as immune to criticism. With the change in art direction, this is going to be rather annoying for anyone who preferred the old textures.

Because your going to have a groups of people going around and telling the devs that the current mob models are "iconic" and the change is "unnecessary". Not saying that Mojang should downgrade stuff or anything like that.
I agree with Mancu32. Took me about 3 days to work out how to use the new commands, but my goodness are they awesome! Rotation and position tracking are two of the best things to come to commands in eons! /data is brilliant, as is /execute. Well, aside from if and unless being universal (That's a pain to work around). But other than that, I have absolutely no complaints about this new system. Awesome!
1.13 and related snapshots is terrific. New command system that aligns with the already implemented function system, an overhaul that paves the way for future content updates, and a transition to a newer version of lwjgl. This is a nuts-n-bolts update. As you can expect, there isn't going to be much 'content' with this 1.13 update. But to give you an idea of the importance of this 'waah, there's no new blocks in this update!' update, the up-and-coming 'aquatic update' can't be done without first completing this 1.13 update.
I'm loving the new command system. Now the commands work the same in functions as they do in command blocks (writing a textfile function is a LOT easier to write than programming a bunch of command blocks in-game). Also, the portability of functions make this update worth it all by itself. If you like doing things with command blocks, you are going to love the 1.13 update. You know, I'd really like to see SethBling rewrite his 'Atari2600 Emulator' with the new command system because he might be able to make it almost playable in Minecraft.
But I'll concede that the new horse model is not the best in the world... I liked how the modelled stirrups swung on the old horse's saddle, those minute details really added depth to the relatively simple low-poly horses. Now even though the new horse models have more primitives, the smaller details are gone - an inanimate stirrup is now 'painted' onto the side of the horse. Ah well, such is the direction of progress, I suppose.
But overall I like how the 1.13 update is coming along. The coup de gras will be whether Mojang writes up in-depth documentation on each new command, along with examples on how to effectively implement each of those commands. Keep up the good work!
I like the changes with the horse model, it felt out of place in Minecraft's world. Artistic consistency is important. They could have done it the other way (updating everything to the style used in the old horse model) but at some point you have to choose between the two styles.
Remember it's "worse" on purpose. Debating on the purpose is always smarter than debating whether the new model is "good" or "bad".
I like everything but the new horse model. It's terrible, and looks like a cow with a horse mask. Optifine supports custom entity models, so if mojang leave the bad horse in, i know what i'll do
Other than the terrible horse, I really like the removal of block limits, the new command system and the new items for blocks.
I hate that in the new update they changed EVERY command. Now, they removed /entitydata (And /blockdata ) and I try to use the syntax for /data that it says to use, but it's so confusing. I can't even literally name a skeleton a different name now because of this. This practically ruined minecraft for me, since I use commands ALL the time. Also, execute is literally ruined. If they removed this command-screwing-up in the update, and kept everything else, it would literally be the best update in Minecraft. I love all the new block organization, menu, and all that. But the commands, every single one is changed, so I can't do anything. Also, I hate that it's cap sensitive. I just want to quickly /gamerule keepi - bam. ; I don't put the capital I, it won't TAB. So I have to backspace, put the capital I, then TAB, then true, then enter, then Enter again. And back then, it was just /gamer - TAB - ke - TAB then t - TAB bam enter done. So I hate it's cap sensitive, and also they changed all commands, and that you have to TAB through a list then click enter to put it in, instead of just TAB and move on. Anyways, like I said above, I love the new blocks and such. I just hate they made it more confusing, since back then it was easy to understand and do. I guess it looks more 'official' and 'good' since it has all that fancy TAB list and stuff.
And talking about listing and such, they changed /scoreboard (Actually removed it) and added /team and more. Which is weird, I guess and confusing now.
Also, I think they should add an option besides command suggestions. They should also add "Old command system" which is compatible with the new one.
So if one were to put the old command system in a command block, and one were to put the new one, it still works for both.
I know, this means some players have disadvantages since there are new stuff for /execute and such, but it would be easier
Also, if Mojang doesn't add this, (this is kinda forcing my point) every Realms mapmaker will have to remake their map, so it's to the new command system.
Bam logic
So that would suck, and would put realms off for a while
Also, hopefully they don't force this update on realms, but if they don't, people are gonna complain they're missing out.

I also hate the new horse, although the rest is fine, but I have not been able to test the 17w47b for a bug in the launcher, and I would like to try it
Hey guys, for anyone mad because of the new command.
I know the feel of re-doing every command, for the last few updates that is all what I am doing: updating the same project.
But this had to be done at some point, since 1.8 they said that they are going to remove numerical ids, that will basically ruin most of the commands, so they took the opportunity to update all of them. I quite like what has been done to /execute with if|unless and the new command states, although it is harder to learn; it is -from a coder's perspective- way cleaner.
It opened up a lot of possibilities( like proper ray casting.)
For me this one of the best updates: cleaner, smoother, more consistent, more possibilities. At the cost of re-writhing some text.
I'm glad that they added trap doors, lots of people seem really happy about that. I hope that they will enhance peoples' builds.
My main problem is that I can no longer scroll through my hotbar while sneaking. Which is a problem if, for example, I'm on a ledge trying to switch between torches, a pickaxe and a sword in order explore a new area while fighting enemies. Having to stand up to go back and forth between items really messes with my playstyle.
Yeah I have it set to automatically download the latest snapshot. I never customize vanilla controls, either. So, hmmmm.... not sure what's going on with mine then.
I'm also still not getting used to not being easily able to detect if certain entities are standing on a certain block (/execute as @a[type=chicken] if block ~ ~-1 ~ minecraft:sand run say b0rk, this doesn't work and only applies if ALL chickens are standing on sand, which makes 0 sense to me and renders the whole 'if section' a bit useless in my opinion).
Don't you mean '/execute as @e[type=chicken] ...'? Now you are looking for all players that are chickens if I'm not mistaken.

Unfeasible when it comes to literally thousands of lines.
I absolutely hate the new command system. When I update my worlds to 1.13, NOTHING whatsoever will work. I use the /testfor command A LOT and them removing it is making me hate the new command system. Now we are using the /execute command for everything and I cant even testfor my selected item slot. The wiki doesn't help either. If they add the /testfor command back into minecraft, I will update. But until then I STAY on 1.12.2 until minecraft get good again.
