You engrained the term "stained clay" into our minds for three years straight. We played your game every single day. We loved stained clay. It was the hottest thing in all of Minecraft.
Then you freaking called it terracotta. o_o
Sounds more like cottage cheese than a block to me.
Agree with you OP, I cannot stop referring to it as clay, hardened clay or stained clay, it just rolls of the tongue in a way that terracotta refuses to! I recently played with someone, a new player, who had only ever known it as terracotta and they couldn't figure out what I was going on about, what is this 'hardened' clay you keep talking about..? lol

It's just a different name, and no one is forcing you to refer to it as clay or terracotta. Terracotta makes more sense, as it's a type of clay in real life.

You can always change it back with a simple resource pack; here are the names pulled from the en_us lang file in the 1.6.4 jar (with the addition of a default name to fix MC-19996):
While you are at it you can also do this (using the updated name for roses, which used to be tile.rose; the internal name for stained clay has not been changed yet):
Well terracotta is still a type of clay. But as far as i'm concerned, you make things with terracotta, you *play* with clay. As an added bonus I found its a lot easier to search terra cotta than it is to search clay.
I have to use both hands to type clay. I type "terr" with my left hand and there it is. Hope that helps.
I might suggest that clinging to the idea of certainty is not a very good idea since things tend to change a lot.
Honestly, you could probably just keep calling it "stained clay" and everyone will still know what you're talking about. Kinda like how I could say "adminium," "sulfur," and "reeds," but people will still know what blocks & items I'm referring to.
I somehow forgot that was an old fandom nickname and not the official name. Err on my end. Adminium is bedrock.
Rest of my post still rings true, though.

I can see where it got that name actually, I guess the bedrock layer was seen as the "admin" layer on servers seeing as only admins could break it with plugins.
And yes, I still call gunpowder "sulfur", and I'm actually considering renaming it to that in my resource pack that I'm going to make for 1.13.

Yeah, but that won't stop what Rodj71 said. That in my opinion is more annoying, it's like speaking english to a foreigner who knows just enough to hold a convo. Sure you can talk but if the convo goes on for too long it'll end up having a misunderstanding.

Personally I will keep referring to it as stained clay. Although the term makes no real sense. Like come on, it's not stained, I deliberately painted it that way!
But whenever someone says terracotta, I only think of the new (glazed) ones and not stained clay. So that will be the bigger problem when communicating with other players.
Dear Mojang,

Please.
Change it back.

Dear Stone_Pickaxe
This is a simple namechange and makes a bit more sense considering what Terracotta is and what Terracotta is now used to make.
You'll get used to it
-Ivuul and most likely quite a number of other people...
Couldn't have said it better myself.

Ever see a bad forum post online? That's probably me.

(you'd be surprised at how many people went up in arms over such a simple change; changing textures is also just as easy)
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
I still call Crouching "shifting". If you want to call it Stained Clay, call it stained clay, but Terracotta is more accurate.

Wasn't Sugarcane called Reeds a long time ago? Everyone got used to it eventually.
I still call it Reeds, Bamboo and Sugar Cane depending on what comes into my head
I agree with Stone_Pickaxe! Every time I want to build with Terracotta, I accidently search "clay" in the creative inventory!

I'm finally back. See profile for details.

Adminium? What is that now called?
I somehow forgot that was an old fandom nickname and not the official name. Err on my end. Adminium is bedrock.

If this can help you remember its name, "terracotta" is italian and literally means "cooked earth", which is what it is.
I think it is kind of weird that they added the new terracotta colors. It makes them look like they came from a mod.

I'm a redstoner and a modder.
