I absolutely agree with you, ShelLuser. Another issue regarding the new launcher, is that now, the launcher can't provide the appropriate permissions to increase the memory or any other function of the computer's hardware, that is allocated to the Java runtime instance of the game. Now that you can't use these methods, mods that require more computing power will have to be provided by more manual manners.
Haven't had any issues with that on the new launcher. If the changes you make are not being allowed, you may have to be on an administrative user account on your computer.
The new launcher really isnt much and theres nothing to really rant about it looks pretty much the same to me theres no dfference in what you can do with the launcher and who cares about the launcher anyway just play the game.

Hi the Linux flaws have been fixed of you update, in fact it was fixed within an hour of the finding. The yellow media likes to make mountains out of molehills. Linux and the new launcher work fine. Minecraft and Linux are amazing.

You were trolled According to the Reddit thread, Mojang has had a Linux build of the launcher ready for about two months but is still working out how to best distribute it. The reason being that on Linux they rely on OpenJDK being preinstalled (or very easily obtainable) by the distro's package management, but for the Win/Mac versions they are aiming at bundling a custom version of Java because a lot of OS installations are borked.

yeah cept the bundle has been bundled and im twiddling my thumbs.... like alright.... ok....
I know the linux build is groovy n smooth. and what could have been "previous concerns" ended up being a new light engine and etc....
Thing is I completely rebuilt my build on this pc... so im kinda' still gathering my information again.
I had to gather the info i left myself.
cool thing is though i know i can build this build on any most* computers now. which is nice. I was able to get my past build to refract to my new cellphone (a part of it anyways). so now i got a nice computer and a nice cell phone.
After reading the first few entries on the first page, I just have one conclusion.
The new launcher isn't as good as the old one, but I think that Mojang should keep it optional to use the new launcher. But sometime soon they won't be using Java anymore for Minecraft and they will have that new cross platform thing.
And then the unique Minecraft for PC will be ruined.
I personally hate Minecraft for Windows 10, it's stupid. And I do agree with OP about the Windows 10 is a downgrade to Windows Vista. :P;
It can and does slow down the game performance because the launcher takes the games stdout in an inefficient way which blocks the game, and Java doesn't give me a more efficient (and safe) way of doing that. It also eats memory like no tomorrow. These are usually only a problem with modded games though, as they spam log a lot.
The main immediate benefit comes from us managing your Java installation; the majority of players were using the architecture of Java (32 on 64) which significantly hurt performance. Not to mention how many people were on Java 6, when 8 was supposed to be common place.
This also let's us be more accessible to users, almost nobody has Java preinstalled so when they go to get the game then find out they need to get something else first and hopefully they find the legitimate place to get Java... They accept the adware that's bundled with Java and blame us. >_>
And this means we can host non Java games in the future! Like the c++ version of the game some day maybe, if we wished.
Not to mention the speed improvements (you can go from clicking the launcher icon to having the game open in less than a second on my machine. Most of the wait time is JVM startup of the actual game, at that point. Old launcher could take about 15 seconds maybe), lots of new things we couldn't do before (better OS integration, multi instance support in a way that makes sense, a nice UI that doesn't make people scream), lots of issues that don't exist anymore (portability concerns, antivirus interferance being undetectable, lots of things we can now detect before they become a problem for the game), and just all around being so much better.
There's seriously no downside to moving away from Java here. There's lots and lots of upsides.
Oh, and we decided to do this about two years before the Microsoft talks began. We started it about one year before. I'm seriously not one to defend Microsoft's every move (yeah, I know, I work for them so you won't believe me. But you can go find some very negative tweets from me about Windows 10 or skype for example ). But this has absolutely nothing to do with Microsoft, nothing to do with trying to extinguish Java as a thing, it's entirely about making users lives easier.
@oCrapaCreeper: Thanks a lot, that finally sorts it out for me.
TL;DR: They are redoing the launcher in C++ for various technical reasons. That project has been in place for 4+ years, so it is not MS related. Main advantages: Works around issues with Java installations and various platform-related bugs, allows management of Java on OSes without central package management (Win/OSX), and allows Mojang to host non-Java games, like C++ Minecraft. Downsides: None really.
@The_MP8: Not a normal update. This is about a completely rewritten beta launcher that is not available by official channels yet.

"silent mode?"
I use windows vista so I can't use the new launcher if the "silent mode" still occurs.
That's why i'm asking.
It might be a launcher problem than the game itself since the new does not use java.

No, it does not.

I still have win vista so I can't verify myself if silent mode still happens with the new launcher.

Its been 4 and a half months now.... who knows maybe notch will get laser beamed
I'm still using the old 1.6.70 launcher on Win 10 just fine.
That's not saying it will be that way forever. Change is possible.Just cuz "he's not working on it" isn't saying he's not doing something.
Linux launcher coming soon.
And Dinnerbone on why they made a new launcher.
He left Mojang and sold it and doesn't even like being recognized for making the game anymore. He's not doing anything.
Wait, there was an update to the launcher? I didn't notice. So, I guess, now I know there's been an update.
