I was wondering if someone knows if the new structures - woodland mansions will spawn in chunks that have been already generated (player has been to them before the update), like Ocean Monuments do, regardless of you being there or not before they were a thing. I'm playing on a world that's been made on 1.9 I think, back in October 2015, around this time of the year.
I was about to go on a majestic quest for gold, a journey to a Mesa biome, but then I thought of this. These are the things that have always prevented me from exploring my worlds, as I'm afraid I'd miss out on goodies in updates to come. So, I'd really like these bad boys to spawn regardless of that, and I don't want to play snapshots on this world, because I care about it and they can mess your worlds pretty bad.
The mansions are rare enough and probably far enough away that, much like the end gateway islands and killing the dragon to get the gateway portal, you are much better off looking for a cartographer villager and trading for the mansion maps rather than roaming randomly around the world hoping to see one from afar.
No, you misunderstood me, I didn't mean to roam the world looking for the mansions - I asked will they spawn in already generated chunks?
I don't know yet if they will or not but the point is, they are so rare, and so spread out that you probably have not, and will not, generate the area where they "would" generate anyway. So explore away to your heart's content. If you're really worried about it, pick a direction to go exploring, and keep the other side "clear" for future updates but, when you do get around to go looking for a mansion, it's gonna be far no matter what. Probably farther than you've ever been before, even if it didn't "have" to be (i.e. even if they "can" generate in already-existing chunks, they're still so rare that it's unlikely they will generate in any of those particular chunks that are in your world already.)
