So they're adding entity collisions back into the game with this week's snapshot. Fine, player collisions will enable all sorts of fun to be had with AFK players on survival servers. But other entities can push each other more easily now, too.
For a long time, I've had problems with livestock pushing each other into walls and suffocating. I've designed my underground livestock pens with walls made of transparent blocks like fences to reduce the deaths, but they never quite go away entirely. Is this problem going to get worse? Will high-density mob autofarms like automatic chicken machines get nerfed by this? And how about mob grinder designs that cram hundreds of zombies or skeletons into a 1x1 space for mass slaughter?

Mob collision doesn't seem to affect contact vertically much, so you can still have 100 pigs in a cramped 1x1 area if you shove them down a vertical tunnel where they'll all fall into the same spot. I can confirm that most, if not all ultra-compact mob farms shouldn't be affected by the collision changes. However, you may experience resistance/knockback when trying to stand near the mass of mobs when trying to breed them, and in some cases you can be knocked back really far, so make sure to hold down sneak and the forward key when near the breeding chamber, or just don't get too close. (For example, if you place blocks around a 1x1 space on the sides, but not on the corners, then sprinting into the corners will get you knocked back, especially if there's tons of pigs in the 1x1 area.

Wish placing blocks directionally was easier? Check out this suggestion!
