Unfortunately, yes.
At least it is no longer a primitive flame war though.
And honestly, I'd prefer the title of this thread to be "Why some are hating 1.9"
As for a release date, the sooner the better IMO because this thread will die once people start playing it. I will leave the reason as ambiguous. Because it's obvious. XD
Preferably, we can all just stop posting now. We've said everything there is to say. I have no right to restrict peoples' posts, but this is just a suggestion.
Welcome to the forums! XD
This isn't an argument. We are merely discussing our views. Such is the purpose of the forums. Changes won't be made to the system if we don't sound our voice; support for the system only exists when people actually support the system. You were never (and still aren't) obligated to respond to everything or anything posted. As I have stated I see it as more of an open discussion which helps the developement of the game, which is the reason I came to the forums in the first place. And, quite frankly, the reason they were ever created.
Hey! I came to the forums to learn, to discover, not to discuss most of the time! XD
Sorry if I didn't use the right word, but I really meant discussion, "open discussion" if you want to.
I'm morally obligated, if you responded me, I should respond you, just for being a good person, or at least a fair one.
Thanks for your time!

Well, thank you for taking the initiative. I think we should probably kill this thread now.

There, everyone happy? Don't answer that. It was rhetorical.
And we should kill this discussion until 1.9 is released. K? (Also rhetorical)
I didnt see this post. Sry, but agreed. Do you think we could get an admin to lock it for now?
We can ask, but there would be no real grounds to request a lock for it other than beaten to death. I hope it does get locked, at least for the time being.
For any newcomers to this thread, I implore you to read back and see if what you wanna say has been said in the 50+ pages. If it has been, I recommend you don't keep this going. Thank you!
I don't like the new fighting system, I find it confusing and not needed in minecraft.
(we have provided long, drawn out arguments and counterarguments for and against this very specific view already, in regards to confusion and simplicity)

Yeah, it's not just beating a dead horse at this point. We've actually revived the horse as a skeletal horse, then ridden it to exhaustion, then gotten it blown up by a creeper, then filled the creeper's crater with lava, and yet we still continue to beat whatever molecules remain of the poor beast!

Well, pretty much all that's left to do is wait for 1.9 to come out. Then we'll watch as the hype dies down and people take off their hype glasses so they finally see clearly and act accordingly. Then once they play solidly they might finally notice the flaws that people have been pointing out throughout the snapshots. All I need to do now is wait...

Purpur got Stairs and Slabs. Where's our Prismarine Stairs and Slabs... Prismarine Pillars... End Brick Stairs/Slabs... "ite" stone Stairs/Slabs...?
Instead of fixing the underwater glitch with slabs, stairs, anything that isn't a full block, mojang decided to ignore it and just add regular blue blocks for the oceans.
Today we'll talk about how much shields you can craft compared to diamond armour, and their durabilities.
As some of us know in 1.9, diamond armour protection has been reduced from 80% down to 66% to make you die faster. There also has been the introduction of Shields made from 6 wooden planks and 1 iron ingot. This new item also reduces damage down by 66% so it is on par with the base protection of diamond armour.
First off let's show the number of ores. In each chunk there is on average 77 iron ores from layers 1-63, and there is on average 3.097 diamond ores from layers 1-16. If we reduce the range of iron ores that we mine down to layer 1-16, same as diamond, there are on average 19.5 iron ores each chunk.
In order to craft a full suit of diamond armour, you need 24 diamonds, which is about 8 times the amount you get from chunks. If we mine the same amount of area to find the 24 diamond ore, we can manage to dig up 156 iron ore. Compared to 1 suit of diamond armour, you can make 156 shields.
Now let's talk about durability. I've seen some people complain that the durability of shields sucks, but let's see how it really compares!
Diamond helmets have 364 durability, chestplates have 529, leggings have 496 and boots have 430. In total that's 1819 durability. But since each piece takes damage when worn, the average durability is divided by 4, down to 454.75.
Shields have 181 points of durability. Still lower then the armour average right? Until we get to how many shields we can craft...
With all that iron that you found while digging for diamonds, the 156 ores can be made into 156 shields, with a total of 28236 durability!
Compared to 454 durability of armour, the durability of shields is about 62 times the amount of diamond armour!
Even if you're using a fortune 3 pickaxe on the diamonds, which increases the amount by on average 120% (998.8 durability) shields still have 28 times the durability of diamond armour!
Now I know what you're thinking. "But shields lose more durability depending on how much damage they take!" While this is true, in order to break even with fortune III diamond armour you would need to take 27 (13.5 hearts) damage EACH HIT. (And what a coincidence, you can die instantly by taking that much damage with diamond armour because of the new armour penetration mechanic) The shield would reduce the damage down to about 4.5 hearts, so you could only take 2 break-even hits before needing to recover.
But if you were to use no-fortune diamond armour, you would need to take 61 (30.5 hearts) damage. The shield itself would reduce that down to 10.167 hearts. Guess what? Because you tried to break even with diamond armour, you're dead!
And if your mind isn't blown enough yet, remember how I only counted iron ore found from layers 1-16? Well you can find another 57.5 iron ore on average in every chunk above layer 16 as well, making shields 111.6 times more durable and just as protective as fortune III diamond armour if you mine every single iron/diamond ore!
Well this has been an episode of Fun Facts About 1.9. I hope you enjoyed! Goodbye!
EDIT: Oh by the way, I didn't mention how many times shields can last if you mine every iron ore compared to no-fortune diamond armour. If you're interested, the answer is 245.5 times as long.
But diamond armor doesn't slow whoever is wearing it down, and you can't automatically equip another shield once the shield you are using breaks.
Does it matter that it slows you down if it can last 28-111.6 times as long? At least it doesn't reduce it's effectiveness when it takes high amounts of damage and it's immune to projectiles.
And you can't automatically equip armour either. In fact, since you have 4 pieces of armour, reequipping it is slower too.

Not taking sides, no one will read through a page of drivel for every new comment.
It matters a lot when dealing with anything that can outflank...which is anyone smart enough to do it (Or anything with numbers to it's side), which only makes shields worse because they don't protect from all angles.
Shields can't be enchanted, and they use up a more useful material.
all a shield requires is 1 iron ingot, and usually when I go caving I get about 200 iron ore
