Their height is a little weird, though. Everything will 'hover' above a dirt path road.
Not so you'd notice... Although, that may be why there are no shadows on dirt paths. (again, not something you really notice unless you're paying really close attention to everything walking over your paths to see if it looks like they're hovering... )
I like them; there are still places where I'll put in a cobble or diorite road, but dirt paths winding around the garden or disappearing into the trees can be really nice.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
The reason I dislike the combat part of 1.9 is because, as of now and according to my theories, it will cause more problems to players who already have problems to begin with. Low FPS, High Ping, and low skill.
With 1.8 spam clicking, no matter how fast and accurate you were, you could never hit something more then 2 times a second.
People with higher FPS then others, who had more chances to correct their aim and so could be more accurate still could only hit people 2 times a second.
People with lower FPS, who had less chances to correct their aim and were less accurate, it didn't matter as much because as long as they hit at least once every 0.5 seconds, they were almost equally good compared to high FPS players.
With 1.9 currently removing spam clicking, it means any misses that low FPS players do will not allow correction because you need to wait to attack again, and so higher FPS players who have more chances to be accurate will hit more compared to low FPS players, and the equality is lost just because of the low FPS you might not be able to fix.
High Ping players have a similar problem when it comes to timing.
1.8 has a bunch of stuff that relies on timing already. Bows, throwables, knockback, block placing including flint and steel to name some.
With 1.8 the core part of combat wasn't very time based, since you didn't have to use sword attacks when they aren't blocking because blocking sort of sucked.
With 1.9 adding shields that have a much stronger block, it means that high ping players who are unable to reliably time basic combat techniques will have greater trouble then before against low ping players who could time things well.
You could argue that you need to use an axe, but in the time you need to use it to remove that disadvantage, your opponent has already done more damage then you.
You could also say that the high ping player could use a shield as well, but a low ping player could see when the high ping player lowers his shield with better timing, and attack when it's down.
I have seen people will such low skill at combat that they have died to spiders on easy mode.
The slower attack speeds, the penalty for attacking early, the reduction in armour protection and the mostly unchanged monster attacks means that these people who already have trouble playing will have even greater trouble.
Sure you could argue that "They need to practice and get skilled" but this was already a thing anyway.
You didn't start the game knowing how to fight, so you already needed to learn how.
But with it being harder now it means people learning will have alot further to go with alot more failures, which is much less fun.
I do agree that the game needs more variety with combat, but not at the cost of abandoning everyone who has trouble playing. Whether it's their fault or not.

It's still hard to believe that people struggle with fighting in this game. But I can see how framerate issues will make players useless in PvP situations because of their inability go react fast enough. Oh well, that's Mojang for you.
*cough* Microsoft *cough* they're kind of ruining Minecraft *cough* not with the update *cough* but by merely existing *cough* and doing weird things with it *cough*
I think he meant by "There "ruining" Minecraft by merely existing" (To be honest i was offended about Teesee's comment)
I think Microsoft has done some odd things, the movie & Minecraft:Story Mode seem out of character for Mojang to me. However I've only been part of the community for about half a year.
I think Microsoft has done some odd things, the movie & Minecraft:Story Mode seem out of character for Mojang to me. However I've only been part of the community for about half a year.
But some of those odd things are kinda pretty cool. Like the Holo lens and the Minecraft:Story Mode. (And yet you have more post that me. I think we're getting off topic)
probably shouldn't even be doing PvP in the first place
Please tell me that this is not what you meant if it isn't.
Because if it is then:
Just because people have issues like this doesn't mean that they should get excluded from a part of the game which heavily influences some parts of Minecraft.
I have high ping on most servers I play on, and I do quite well in 1.8. Please don't say that I shouldn't be allowed to PvP because of the problems I can't control.
What if for example, you didn't have fast access to the Minecraft Wiki, friends who know about crafting or anything to find out crafting recipes.
Does that mean you shouldn't even be doing crafting in the first place because of a slow internet or lack of friend contact?
If that is not what you meant then disregard the above.
Everyone here seems to think that pvp takes no skill. This proves they know nothing of it and have no right to make statements about when they themselves know nothing. If u think spam clicking is "op" you really need to look at the situation again. Nothing is op if everyone can do it. Saying spam clicking is op is literally saying attacking is op. Pvp is not spam clicking, it's easier if u do it but if you're better enough than the person you're fighting you don't even need to. Pvp is made up the following : strafing, following strafes, comboing, and killing combos. This isn't obvious at first, so most people the first time they pvp will get rekt for straight lining and not being able to follow the other guy. Spam clicking only helps guarantee you hit them as many times as possible, not thinking about whether or not to click, but instead focusing on strafing and the rest of the skill based components of pvp. A limited hit speed only means you have one more distraction from the main part of pvp.
Please tell me that this is not what you meant if it isn't.

Don't overreact. If you, as you say, have a high ping and feel you do okay in PVP then really high ping is not the issue is it? But where really is the truth? Are the people saying high ping is making pvp unfair over stating the fact or are you overly minimizing the effect it has on you...perhaps because you've never had good ping to know the difference or never played highly competitive pvp? And I'm trying to figure out why high ping is Mojang's fault anyway. I mean of course high ping will effect how well you do in any online game, that's a given, but isn't high ping generally a symptom of the internet and hosting server slowing down?
As much as I find 1.9 not that interesting I do wish it would come out faster and hopefully mods this time will update. On the other hand the combat change might be another excuse for people not to upgrade so mods might still stay on old versions. I find that sad because I can't play minecraft without mods and even though I don't find the newest versions that interesting I always have that feeling as if I should be using the latest update.
If you, as you say, have a high ping and feel you do okay in PVP then really high ping is not the issue is it?
I said I do well in it. But there are still times when it has killed me because something bad happens but it gets delayed and I can't notice it until it's too late. (Mainly taking 2-3 hits and then receiving all the knockback at once, being unable to do a thing as I get blown off a cliff)
But where really is the truth? Are the people saying high ping is making pvp unfair over stating the fact or are you overly minimizing the effect it has on you...perhaps because you've never had good ping to know the difference or never played highly competitive pvp?
I'm overly minimizing the effect it has on me because I've learned to work with it, but it still doesn't stop everything that goes wrong because of it.
And I have played on servers where it has almost no ping for me. I did far better there because there were far less unreliable effects such as bows failing to fire and getting stuck in blocks. But so far it has only been 1 or 2 servers.
It was also very competitive when we actually did PvP there. Picture 20 players with nothing but an iron sword and their skills that needed to get as many kills as possible in the time limit. Lots of heavy combat that could spell death in 2-3 hits if you weren't skilled enough.
And I'm trying to figure out why high ping is Mojang's fault anyway. I mean of course high ping will effect how well you do in any online game, that's a given, but isn't high ping generally a symptom of the internet and hosting server slowing down?
The high ping isn't Mojang's fault. But what is their fault is that they are adding an item which effects basic sword PvP, is easy to craft and is very powerful if you can't bypass it properly. (Such as timing attacks correctly)
Just because something in your past caused you to dislike pvp doesn't mean its bad, it doesn't mean you have to rant about it, DON'T make connections where there are none and DON'T BE A PATRICIA PULLING G-damnit!!!
Like if you understand
P.S. Joking abut the like

You're talking about shield right? They still need some serious balance for sure - as all the weapons and how they react to them. I hope they make the hitbox a little small so you can't defend against arrows 100% of the time - its not only bad for pvp (personally, I don't care about PvP or creative, only to survival single player), but makes the new skeletons AI kinda lame if you are practically invulnerable against arrows (if you remain still, permitting easy heal or even just eat).
But seeing some UHC's episodes on YouTube (using the snapshot) make me think about how people overestimate shields - practically every player that think shields are that good are dying like flies (misuse of a good tool leads to death for sure - but people must understand that is a tool, and not that powerful - you still can flank the defender and hit clean or put the shield on CD using an ax).
I hope to see zombies able to use shield in future snaphots - imagine a Minecraft where zombies can protect creepers from arrows, allowing them to flank the player and... we know what's happen next xP

If you spam click enough, yes you could get 20-25 hits in 2 seconds, and people with haxs really could get 550 in 2 sec
So wrong! In 2 secs we get the following at best
trackpad: 10
apple's new force touch trackpad: 5
cheap mouse: 10
$100 gaming mouse: 15
and at best the hackers get like 30!
