The only thing I can agree with what you said is the bows being shot with one hand, completely stupid addition.
People were complaining bows needed some buff since shields completely negate them. That might have been why.
Personally I think they need a slight nerf. Less knockback for less powered shots. An arrow that travels 3 feet shouldn't knock you back the same distance as one that was fired from 100+ meters.
Pretty weird indeed. But on the other hand, Minecraft is the same game where you can climb a ladder with your back, with in your hand a stack of golden blocks, capable of beating bats while climbing, and a lead with a horse attached, going up with you. And in 1.9 also in your other hand a stack of golden blocks, because why not.
I think that shooting a bow with one hand is then not the most difficult task in the game.
Judging from the animation, the character still techically uses both hands to fire the bow. It's just they are still holding an item while pulling the string.

I miss quivers. I think there was a mod where there was a quiver that could be put in the chestplate slot, and it would let you use a bow like the old pre-beta 1.7 version. Good times...

Many people don't want Minecraft to turn into RPGcraft. Many of us enjoy the simplicity that older versions, especially those before beta 1.8/ release version 1.0. On the other half of this forum post with swords, I say that there was no way to spam click. Click as fast as you want, get one of those stupid turbo clicking gaming mice if you want, the game will only accept a certain amount of clicks, like 1-3 a second. Ever notice how you can still see the swinging animation of the sword? No? Cheat in a slight mining fatigue effect on your character to check while you're reading this, but that's only how fast the game will accept clicks, if you have a good monitor you can see that. Most people don't like how you have to wait 10 seconds before making an effective hit again. It's just too slow for some people, people just want to fight and try and win as quickly as possible. Besides, the other person can still have an advantage and strategy, like mine is block hitting (Right and left click a fraction of a second nearly simultaneously). That's what people don't like changing. My point is, you can NOT spam click. If you don't want to believe me, argue with whoever you want whenever you want, but if you don't like it enough to do that just revert back to 1.8 or earlier.

The time to "reload" a sword is only slightly longer than the .5 second invulnerability period that mobs and players have after taking damage. While you're waiting for your sword to "reload", you would not have been able to do damage anyway.
That's part of the reason why I think spam clicking is a pretty dumb idea to begin with. Why are you mashing your mouse when you can't deal damage anyway? Groups I can understand but when it's 1v1 you're not accomplishing anything different than just waiting for the player to stop flashing red.
Dunno what you're talking about. I usually can one-shot cows with a critical hit with a stone axe.

Usually if you're slaughtering animals, you're not in any situation that would demand haste.
Taking your time to take out the animals in one hit each is great for keeping count when you have a limited amount of space and want to keep the population under strict control.
What about a group of mobs. If it was a group of zombies their most likely not going to land a hit on you anyways. It more convenient just to be able to hit alot of them in a short amount of time.

Then use lava buckets, jump on a 3 block high tower and kill them, get creative. It's not even that long of a time to kill anything anyways.
um.. This 'reload sword' well when you say jump on a 3 block tower, what if your in a 1vs1 flat area? then what, Basically sword pvp is an awesome expreince for players, and has been like this for YEARS! but now you have to reload, it's actually WAY harder than you think, and 'use lava buckets' you don't know what your talking about, competitive pvp servers like MCSG BadLion Hive etc, They don't have lava buckets, this is a massive different.

MCSG, BadLion, Hive and servers like that is something I don't consider to be Vanilla Minecraft since they are basically modifying the game to their liking, just like mods. So please don't bring them up as a reason to why the new combat sucks, which is created for enhanced Vanilla experience. Quite sure that they'll mess around with Haste to bring back the spam clicking anyways..

The update isn't old Minecraft. The old Minecraft versions are better, but this is changing WAY too much. They are not supposed to add all of this junk (Duel wielding, shields, ETC) Ender cities are alright, because that does very little change to the overall game. If pvp servers update, it wouldn't be the same pvp fun you would get 1.8.8 and below. I highly disagree that the new pvp update is at least good.
Thought I would take a day for 1.9 and convert my random generation map. About 12 hours and I just could not make it fun.
