I thoroughly believe they have done just that. They took away the REAL fight to fighting the Ender Dragon and made him much to easy to kill. So easy to kill that you can stand under him and kill him with taking no dmg at all. Seriously where is the fun in that?
So, by adding a ranged attack to the Ender Dragon and by caging some of the Ender Crystals, they made the fight easier?
Ikr, I actually went in and thought the Ender Dragon in a 1.9 snapshot and found the fight more difficult than it's ever been. And I had this in my inventory:
Full diamond armor with prot. 4
Diamond sword with Sharpness 3
Diamond Pick with Efficiency 4
2 Stacks of ender pearls
A bow with Punch 2 and Infinity
Normal Arrows
Tipped arrows with potion of harming
10 Regen. potions
5 Enchanted Gapples
A Stack of steak
A water bucket

In some ways it is easier, others harder. Overall I would argue that it is marginally easier than it was before, but that's just my opinion. It doesn't matter.
it is annoying 1. when the dragon comes down for the dragon breath it stays there for like 2 mins. so you can get like 10 hits off her before she goes back up like a scardey cat
I haven't played the new dragon yet but I kind of disliked the knockback+island thing with the dragon, it made it useless to stock up on good armor because you might fall off and lose it all immediately. I do hope they make the dragon overall harder though, I had a game where I went through on hardcore with no armor and it was a cakewalk.
It's obviously not finished as it's still very rough around the edges. It seems like Dinnerbone simply wanted to mimic the console edition fight and then adjust it. For the most part - the fight is better. You must now take risk climbing up a few pillars to destroy the caged crystals, and the dragon has a ranged fireball attack.
Problem is the Ender Acid attack is a bit underwhelming now, it seems to have been designed with the assumption the player will get close to the dragon while it's hovering above the nest and melee her - when it actuality most players just sit back and spam arrows out of range, as quite frankly the Ender Acid attack actually does a considerable amount of damage and even pierces through armor - no one will want to get close to that. Not really Dinnerbone's fault as all he did was basically port the behavior over from the console edition, but it's still not that good. Also, she doesn't seem to charge at you anymore, which means it's easier to climb up pillars as her fireballs will miss most of the time.
The way to fix it would probably to give the dragon a shield that deflects projectiles (like the wither) while she is hovering above the nest, that way you're forced to get close at that stage of the fight. I still think she should stay stationary so the players has a chance to deal a lot of damage before she flies away.
Then improve the fireball attack, because the accuracy of those things are all over the place right now and often shoot at the sky or something, and they do bad damage. She should fire them in maybe bursts of 3 instead of 1. Not like the wither's fireball spam, but it should at least hit the player if they aren't moving - notably if they're climbing the pillars.
You mean like the Blaze? That's a pretty cool idea.

Always remember that Jesus loves you so much that He died rather than risk spending eternity without you.
"What do you say to lunch, followed by breakfast? Because we're time travelers, and that's how we roll! Then, cocktails with Moses, and I'm going to invent a flying submarine. Why? Because no one ever has, and it's annoying!"
Only problem I have with the current Ender Dragon is the fact that she just sits there and shoots short range Ender Acid while you spam arrows, taking down most of her life. It'd be better if she made some kind of "drive-by" acid shooting, forcing you to actually dodge it. Either that or some kind of homing projectile.
Caged Crystals on the other hand is a nice addition.
Yes! Homing projectiles (like the Shulkers) which make the player float into the air (like the Shulkers, again) so that she can fly at the player and deal some nasty damage.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
I like how a couple peoples biggest problem was my typo. Yes I know its set in stone yet but I feel it will be and it will just ruin the end game experience. This is all just my opinion and I just wanted to see what everyone else's thought's on the matter were that is all.
I do like most peoples views and such on the matter. I agree its great to have a variety and I surely hope that each spawned dragon doesn't just stick to one form of fighting but hopefully have different ways to fight.
Oh and also I wasn't criticizing Mojang just stating how I felt about what they done with the end fight. They are doing a bang up job on everything else and I couldn't be more happier with them and what they are bringing to us players. I'm just saddened to how the end is seeming to be.
I find the battle really hard and cool, but also annoys me a bit because i have to keep climbing those towers to break those cages and blow up that thing,a explosive arrow would be quite useful in the fight cause you could blow the cage from far away

The whole point of adding the cages was to prevent you from destroying them from a range, they want you to put yourself at risk and climb them. It's still relatively easy to do because the pillars are now within enderpearl throwing range of each other.
Well, before 1.9, it wasn't a fight at all. As they explained at Minecon, how is shooting a few raised crystals then shooting a dragon as it does absolutely nothing to stop you a fight? She is almost not involved in the fight at all, and it is quite BORING.
Now, you have to climb the pillars (which could be achieved with ender pearls) while risking the fact that the dragon could attack you, and then you have to avoid being shot at, making the fight more fun and giving you a better story to tell your friends, like in 1.8 you'd have to say "I threw snowballs at the crystals then spent ages shooting at the dragon with a bow." You can tell that it was probably boring for the person and not action-y at all. Not really a great story, you'd be better just saying that you bet Minecraft and then just walk off. But in 1.9 you are sure to have an action-packed and exciting tale to tell.
I thoroughly believe they have done just that. They took away the REAL fight to fighting the Ender Dragon and made him much to easy to kill. So easy to kill that you can stand under him and kill him with taking no dmg at all. Seriously where is the fun in that?

Except, you know, this is a snapshot and they're not done.

Look, if your going to critique Mojang, you should probably spell their name right.
Anyway, its a snapshot.
Its not finished. They openly stated that some things might be grossly overpowered or under powered.
Tell them in a well written and detailed paragraph on what parts on the fight you think should be improved upon, and they might just do that.
Or, you know, you could be super vague about it and post it here.
