Today Mojang rolled out a new snapshot, "haven't done that in a while" I personally like it. New features, reworked Minecraft core, and many new features/partially implemented features. Shields, beets, dragon head, new Chorus Plant(Grows on End Stone), and slow rewriting of the combat system. What is there not to like? Lately Mojang has changed(little jump in price for Minecraft[coincidence? No, not at all.], and Minecraft received many large updates as well in the last year, things are looking up for Minecraft, and it's many players(in the aspect of the game-wise, unless they are not well at surviving in-game).

Seems like so much of the changes are focused on two areas of the game I don't really care about, that I'm not all that rev'ed up about it. I have only been to the End once and only to say I did it. Still haven't collected enough (any) wither skulls to progress there. Also I don't do PVP.
I know both of those areas are big in the community, so I congratulate those that see tremendous value.
Personally, I'd like to have seen some attention for the wanna be builders among us. I'd like to see additional block shapes. Specifically vertical slabs and 1/8 sized blocks. We already have full, 1/2, 3/4, 5/8 and 7/8 sized blocks (stairs), having vertical 1/2 and then 1/8 would be nice. More variety in colors would be really nice as well. Having full range of sizes and types (smooth, chiseled, etc) with colored hardened clay would have been cool. I feel silly building a house with wool, and cringe during thunderstorms.
Some addition to the Redstone gallery would be nice. Having a dragon head who's jaw moves when powered, is cool... for about 6 seconds.
Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the new content, just hope next time around they spread the upgrade love around some.

Personally, I could care less about the combat changes. That is not why I play Minecraft. I play to explore and build. What upsets me is that we were given andesite, granite, diorite, prismarine, prismarine brick, and dark prismarine, all with no stairs or slabs which makes them less useful for building. Now we have more new blocks in this update and they actually give stairs, slabs, and pillar blocks for the new block. This irks me because any stone, wood, or building block should have all options available.
What makes these new blocks in the end so special that they get the stairs, slabs, and pillar treatment? What about all the stuff currently in game?
IMO the 1.9 combat is even more broken than it was in 1.8. They did NOTHING to balance the fact a sharpness 4-5 diamond sword still tears through full protection 4 diamond armor as if it was leather. The splash potion system is still horrible since you can still hit yourself with poison splash potions when fighting a player or monster. And, personally, I think that the duel wielding should only be used for swords and shields; sword in main hand, shield in off-hand none of this 'oh I can throw an enderpearl while swinging my sword like a madman!' stuff...we aren't playing Skyrim or something here.
Adding to the duel-wielding thing, the fact you can gain attributes off items from holding something in your off-hand is OP because you could easily make yourself overpowered..
Don't start calling me someone who doesn't like the changes in MC, I personally don't care about change, I'm just saying the new combat stuff is horribly balanced and annoying.
I DO however, love the new blocks in the end, being a builder and explorer myself. it'll be quite fun to build with those.

You do realize in 1.9 they've only released 1 snapshot and they said they didn't add any of the new combat changes in it right?
I'm enjoying this snapshot. I booted up a new survival and offhand feels amazing. Placing torches while mining? Eating while battling? It's pretty cool. The new Skelly A.I. is sick also.

I've never actually "beat" Minecraft, so I'm using this release as an excuse to legitimately play it all the way through. therefore I haven't seen a lot of new features yet. I will say that I really like the skeleton animations, and I love being able to place torches down with my left hand. Although I hope they implement a feature where you can shift-click on torches in your inventory to transfer them to the shield slot.
Are beets only in villages? I haven't come across one yet, but I'm happy that they added another crop.

i've found them in the End City chests, so they might be in other types of chests.

Too many arrows with potion effects. A Waterbottle arrow? Really? What purpose does that serve? I had been hopping for arrows made from Stone, Iron, Gold, and Diamond.
Also, ran into this problem. Happens when there's nothing in the hotbar:
If I have something in my hotbar, my avatar looks fine:
Now, I'm well aware that this is a snapshot. I wouldn't even know how to describe this in the bug tracker.

Purpur? Really, Mojang? Plus, the blocks are crafted with... popcorn? Yeah, totally makes sense.

Hi.
Does anyone find it funny that the Minecraft forums still think that Minecraft is misspelled? Or is it just me?
You do realize in 1.9 they've only released 1 snapshot and they said they didn't add any of the new combat changes in it right?
I wonder why they made purpur slabs and end stone bricks separate blocks and not variants of red sandstone slabs and end stone.
Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
If glass blocks forming pillars instead of what they used to do is a glitch
Don't fix it
Those glass pillars look nice

So many mods, so little time.

Do the fruit always teleport you to the ground? Even if not levitating?
So you can just jump off ANY height and automatically land on the ground safely?
