You do realize that it would be very hard and take a long time to code something like you want into the game.
They've wasted time putting the quiver in/taking it out anyways. It's also not like they're a bunch of novices at coding, since they've been working on Minecraft for a while.
Does this mean that you aren't going to show Dinnerbone the poll? I would personally like to see quivers in the game, even as a small
feature, and I think it deserves the chance you promised when you made this thread.
Many of you have also said they should be added because it is realistic, Minecraft is not about realism, realism is only a good reason when the thing benefits gameplay.
I think that the quiver would benefit gameplay. Also, you say that MInecraft isn't about realism, but then how do you explain hunger,
death, and drowning? I realize that it's not the most realistic game out there (eg, floating stone) but wouldn't you agree that a certain amount
of realism is what gives minecraft a certain flare, as opposed to solely having creative mode?
THAT WAS MY QUESTION TO YOU PEOPLE! I was asking when I should show the poll to Dinnerbone. Should I wait until we hit 70% or should I just show him now?

"No..""Yes!" Think DANGEROUSLY Live EXTRAORDINARILY Click here to learn how to reason
Personally, I voted against quivers. However, that does not mean I'm opposed to the idea and may change it based upon later information (especially the upcoming snapshots).
I do think the quiver could be a nice addition to the game as a way to choose arrows. However, likely having to jump into the inventory each time you need to switch arrows could get annoying.
That being said. Depending upon how the off-hand item is selected it may or may not be more efficient. For instance, if a hotkey allowed you to select a hotbar item for the off-hand. 1-9 control the main hand so perhaps Alt+1-9. In this case swapping arrow types would be as fast as swapping any other item.
On the other hand if the "shield" slot is the only way to set up an off-hand then it offers no real advantage over not having a quiver.
I will also state that a quiver would make the game more realistic but this is also a game where players can literally carry around tons of items so realism is obviously not to main point of Minecraft.
Overall, I will reserve my final judgement until the snapshots start showing up.

Jumping on the bandwagon here as I've seen quite a few of these.
I figured I'd score as either Rogue or Ranger as those are my favorite ways to play.

My point was that realism is secondary to gameplay, most games should have some realism, but if it negatively impacts gameplay, it shouldn't be in there. Some things are just aesthetic and those are great, however something like a quiver inherently should be functional.

Personally, they could add quivers into the game for use to decide on Wither or not to keep the item. Just so that the minecraft community on a topic (like this one) can vote YES or NO. We only know the General idea of the quiver, and we just can't say that it's finalized. For all we know, the quiver requires iron to craft, or just leather and string(Like 99% of the mods out there). The quiver can only hold on type of arrow at any one time ETC, ETC ETC. They could release it and WE decide on weither or not it's YAY or NAY. (Not like everyone is going to be happy with it anyway amirite?)
I think that this would be useful to save one inventory spot, just incase you run across some loot. In 1.9 I bet some modscould extend the capacity of a quiver.

I get it, I do. I think we can both agree that the quiver would reserve at least a modicum of functionality. My argument for the quiver isn't that realism trumps all, rather that, as an aspect of my reasoning for liking the quiver, I like the small realism it brings. Our views simply differ, and that's alright.
Exactly how do quivers benefit gameplay when off-hand can be used for the exact same thing while being quicker?
...and things like hunger, death and drowning are common sense in a survival game.
If you would really like to talk about common sense than you can toss minecraft out the window. TNT cannons and hanging blocks(in midair) make absolutely no sense. But that's why I love it! That's why so many of us out there love minecraft -- it's a break from reality to another (more fun, it seems) world. But, as you say, there is some 'common sense' things in a survival game (which, I might add, also has a creative mode where none of those things exist (for you)) But minecraft is more of an augmented reality in that it has parts of realism (death) and some just plain fun stuff (building a giant sky castle). I like both, and I see the quiver being added as a part of realism, but also as a feature that I would enjoy having. So when you talk about holding 64 arrows in a hand that's also holding a bow...no, it does not make common sense. I can understand one or two, maybe three; but a full stack of arrows? nah. I would personally like to see the quiver, but the decision is, of course, up to you.
I voted no, I do not want Quivers in the game. Really, I don't care whether or not they are present, but before anyone screams at me, I'll provide my reasoning as to why they shouldn't be implemented from a Gameplay perspective, to play Devil's Advocate:
1. Slow Loading leads to Frustration: Quivers would have to have some method of loading the arrows in. Crafting the arrows with the Quiver is slow and can cost you a lot of Health. Opening the GUI to load arrows would mean taking the Quiver out of the slot, into the Hotbar, closing your inventory, opening, loading, and then replacing, a process even more painstakingly slow. Binding it to a key would work, but missing or forgetting the key in a tight situation would not be good. Not to mention that you would have to pick out specifically what arrows you want to load, imagine loading your poison arrows at a powerful enemy, only to find you are actually using regular ones. With the crafting method, you would have to actually use all the arrows before switching, and you would have to open the GUI again to fix it in that method.
2. Crafting an Item that is ultimately Redundunt: Why would a player willingly craft something, spending resources, for something that can be done by lining up items in your inventory? The Left to Right ordering system is still present, so you can simply line up the arrows in order. It doesn't really even help storage, because it would only hold a 1-4 stacks at most, otherwise it would be OP. Plus, why craft it if it is slower to load than without?
3. It does feel more natural from a Gameplay perspective: To a Minecraft Player, the ultimate way of interacting with the world is with there hands and quickly accessible slots. A player thinks of the off hand as they would of the Hotbar, a readily accessible slot for interaction. They think of actually having it on hand, useful, instead of on their back, a foregin concept to Minecraft so far, that would make it feel like it was less usable. Also, holding 64 arrows and a bow seems unnatural? Try juggling 64 flaming torches and holding a heavy Iron Sword IRL, yet I dont see anyone complaining about that.
I would also ask the other people who voted Yes to provide more reasoning as to why it SHOULD be in the game from a GAMEPLAY perspective, other than "Yes, it should be added.", or "I'm an Archer, a Quiver is better."
I'm pretty sure loading arrows into your off hand just as slow as loading it in the quiver.
Is crafting a quiver redundant? Because I can think of another thing that is...
how about leather armor, or gold armor, when iron is so readily available. That is redundant, should they remove that? No, though they should probably re balance their armor values to not make them REDUNDANT
To be honest, quivers don't make a whole lot of difference to archery. It just makes organizing your arrows more tedious and really, if you need to get into battle quickly, you don't want to be stuck still putting your arrows in the quiver.
