[Epic Facepalm] Why would you want double-wielding to break minigames? Isn't that... well, a bad thing? And even then, double wielding is not something that is forced onto players. The second hand (or the "off" hand) cannot be used to attack anything, so PvP should remain pretty much the same in the gameplay aspect.
Bows are extremely useful and powerful, especially when enchanted. Bows are used to no end on most PvP servers, but yes, more arrows = better bows.

If I may add to what you just said about bows, they actually do more damage than swords.
Do you guys even know something than "hurr durr dual wielding". Read some D-bone (or somebody else from Mojang) tweets THEN write nonsense comments to their project.
Here quote from newest 1.9 news on minecraftforum.net :
Added a left hand.
Option to play with the left hand as the main hand.
The main hand acts as the right hand did previously, while the other hand may equip an item through a new off-hand slot.
The off-hand slot is shown by a shield outline in the inventory.
While weapons can be equipped in both hands, a weapon may only be used while equipped to the main hand.
The other hand is only visible to the player when something is equipped there.
The right click action of your off-hand item is used if your main-hand doesn't have its own.
For example, if you have a pickaxe in your main hand and a torch in your other hand, right click places the torch.
Items in the off hand and the main hand can be swapped by pressing a key, which defaults to F.
Some attributes and enchantments will apply to the off-hand item, while others will not.
It's pretty strange what people are writing up there. I think the shields and the whole left-hand deal will change the game only visually, because i think you'll have to right click the shield to protect yourself, just like blocking with sword.
No, I thought it was a subscription based TV series, then I looked at Telltale Games site and discovered it was a game.
Well games made from telltale are pretty much slightly interactable TV shows.

I like this so called "dual-wielding" (even though this won't really be "dual-wielding" though, more like 2 hands) but at first it sounded complex and such with offhand stuffs But I think I can quickly get used to it soon.
Arrow types? Shields? Too much? I can't really say till I play it.
As for the argument on minigames, I actually think this update will improve them, if anything.
Think about it-- if you want to play a certain kind of minigame then you can just go back to 1.8 and play on a 1.8 minigame server which will be available. Then, you can have totally re-worked-- or original-- minigames for 1.9, thus making two separate genres of minigame.
1.8 and 1.9 minigames, two completely separate things with separate ideas. I like the sound of it.
As for 1.9... Think of the possibilities... this will be the next generation of minecraft maps. And as for the whole minecraft story mode thing...Just seems sorta pointless is all, just seems to me like they could do the same thing they are doing with normal humans instead of blocks
If you wanted to disable duel wielding in a minigame, use a plugin to control the inventory, or if you are in vanilla, you'll use /replaceitem to constantly clear the "off hand slot" (warn players in advance of this).
Some of you are so afraid of change. It's funny actually. As for 1.9? I'm totally for it. The more that gets added to the game, the better. More content is always good.
Not too sure about the whole Story Mode deal, but whatever.
1.8: Sucks completely sucks, i hated this update that why i stick to 1.7 till 1.9 release..
as for 1.9? Yup i am for it,i have this feeling of this update it will be a massive update that would really change minecraft to the better
we missed similar updates... 1.5 only added redstone (but i loved this update) 1.6.. Horses.. only -.-, 1.7 added blocks and.. some world stuff nothing new, 1.8 added tons and tons of lag spikes and useless stuff
as for 1.9? i think it would be awesome (unless something happened that will also turn it into 1.8...)
it will NOT ruin any minigame it will just make them more intense...
and dual wielding is (a lot said what is that before me, won't explain that again..)
If we listened to half the people on this thread, we wouldn't have even gotten out of 1.4 yet, seriously!

I am most definitely excited for the new combat mechanics that I can implement into my survival ctm map project I've been working on for almost a year now (and its still not finished nor is it named :-P) but it will definitely motivate me into continue making the map for the 1.9 patch. Im not sure if any map makers like myself feel the same but it will definitely spark more possibilities into custom maps. As for story mode, im not interested in it tbh but I'm glad that Mojang chose Tell Tale Games to work with which is really great.

1.5 (Started on this version)
1.6 There was more added to this update than horses people, stop fabricating it.
1.7 Agreed
1.8 They fixed the lag ages ago. If you're having lag issues with it now, it's your computer's fault. Also, decorative features automatically = useless features aparently. (According to some)

1.6 added horses and what? coal blocks? hardend clay? hay block? they aren't that much
1.8 doesn't lag that much but taking forever to load a world and when it does it takes hours to load the chunks, moving on lag spikes occurring in minecraft 1.8... (only if the lag spikes are not occurring then i would play it :D) in minecraft 1.7 i get about 80/120 FPS on SP and on MP i get up to 150
but in minecraft 1.8 i get only about 70 and rarely 100 but that's playable but lag spikes drops to 1 or 0 FPS
but 1.8 stuff are awesome
(i saw the VBO thingy in the options and once i turned it on my fps really doubled but as i said lag spikes :/ )
So what? Mojang is supposed to scrap 1.9 because you dislike the idea of it? If only getting Obama out of office were that.
Keep in mind you haven't even tried it.

Story mode seems like it could be really cool, this is the first time I have heard about it, but it has a great bit of potential.
This guy. This guy gets it.

In my opinion 1.8 was boring, 1.7 was okay, 1.6 was meh, 1.5 was not my thing (Don't like redstone).....
I think 1.9 will make up for these past updates. I hope, because i'm starting to get bored of minecraft right now and I don't like mods.

1.8:
"Not enough features were added! Mojang sucks!"
1.9:
"Too many features were added! Mojang sucks!"
Seriously, you can never please the Minecraft community.
Actually, the real problem with 1.8 was that they added a ton of boring, bad features that pleased only 30% of the community.
I'm personally excited and also nervous about 1.9. I see a lot of cool features, but I can't shake that feeling that something's going to go wrong.
My battle.net is Kirbyintron#1254, if you want to play some Overwatch with me.
