Seriously dinnerbone?! WHY remove quivers?? Urgh I was so looking forward to those! Why can't he just add it as a rare item in chests as a new fancy-pants way to store arrows? But nope, what a waste.
That is not cool, man... not cool...
I think with the quiver you would have had to craft it with the arrows to put them in it, so it would be much slower to reload, putting it in the offhand slot allows for faster reload times.

No, because the offhand slot could be used for something else if we had a quiver.
Bows are two handed, you wouldn't be able to hold something else other than an arrow anyway. Arrows are simply put in the off hand slot to prioritize them over other arrow types.
Sounds like excuses to me, in regards to the quiver being removed.
With all that 'work' dinnerbone did to include it, he now has nothing to show for it but time wasted he could have spent doing something else.
The logic behind 'you can at least see what arrows someone has in off hand' is moot. more than likely youll be too far away to tell (if you aren't already getting hit by them, you'd already have an idea what they are using.... or the ones u pick up off the ground), and if you get that close a decent player will have switched to a melee weapon by then. This also doesn't do anything in single player, so way to go?
Cant wait till microsoft starts paying attention to the lack of work and content they put out. roflamo

As long as the console editions are still making truckloads of money and Hololens is becoming a thing, Microsoft doesn't care. They didn't buy the company to get involved with development.

Where did anyone from Mojang say that bows are two handed? Source? The fact that you can equip arrows in your off-hand is basically proof that they AREN'T two handed... You know, because you have an arrow in your off-hand?
I haven't seen anything in this thread or the Wiki stating that bows will be two handed... The only thing I saw in regards to it was this tweet and picture.
You cannot dual wield weapons. Well, I mean, you could, but you can only attack from your main arm so it'll be pointless.
By "weapons" I assume Dinnerbone means swords, and by "attack" I assume he means left click, which is true. Since the block function was removed from swords however, your main-hand does not have a right click function. This would default your right click to your off-hand. I assume you would still be able to draw a bow with right click while main-handing a sword, but would be unable to punch someone with it. Not exactly a big loss in the bows functionality.
That's a number of assumptions, but will probably be how it works unless it's reworked again before it's released /shrug.
I was confused in my thought that you can't "use" your main hand however. They just removed the "use"(block) from swords. Your main-hand "use" will override your off-hand.
The right click action of your off-hand item is used if your main-hand doesn't have its own.

I assume the way it would work is that the bow would be in your primary hand, and arrows in the off hand. The bow could only fire if arrows are in the off hand, as holding a tool or something would prevent you from pulling back the string. That would make the most sense.
Damn, poor quiver is doomed to never be implemented.

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
It wouldn't be that hard to make it so that any item OTHER THAN arrows in the off hand slot prevent you from using the bow. Arrows in the off-hand slot are simply prioritized over other arrow types that may be in the inventory.
Hadn't seen that, would be nice to have it added to the OP on this thread.
Makes removing the quiver an even dumber idea... It would've been nice before but wouldn't have made a big difference... Now instead of having a dedicated arrow slot, so you can rapidly change to a bow and let loose with prioritized arrows, if I have something in my off-hand already... I'll need to switch to my bow, remove the item from my off-hand to use it, then put arrows in my off-hand to prioritize them...
Yeah, that feels more "natural" than just switching to my bow and pulling the correct arrows from my quiver... /facepalm...
Hopefully equipping a bow removes your off-hand item I guess? It just seems a bit counter intuitive for making something "feel more natural"...

According to Dinnerbone though you can still fire arrows from your inventory, placing a stack of arrows in your offhand simply allows you to specifically fire a certain arrow type if you have multiple on you. Though I'd think you could just place the arrows accordingly in your inventory since the game detects arrows from left to right.
We'll have to wait until the thing is finished and we actually get a snapshot before we can really figure out how this works.

But you still can't fire the bow because you were caving and have torches in your off-hand... OOPS, THAT CREEPER IS RUNNING AT ME PRETTY FAST, BETTER CLEAR MY OFF-H... *SSSSSSSS*...

Oh come on, now quivers are gone...seriously? One of the good features...that was a stupid move in my opinion, not even how bows work... because yes, just everybody bunches their left hand with arrows to shoot, not you know, using it to hold the bow or anything like that.
How will that even work anyway? I thought the bow was a two handed weapon, and that would be way better. What's wrong with quivers anyways? If you really want to see what arrow you're holding, it shouldn't be very difficult to add a little icon next to your hotbar on what your quiver is holding. That would be way better and still add in a long-missing feature of the game.
...Sigh...waiting months for another 1.9 news to find they removed something....Mojang....

To put simply the new system is you have the bow in your main hand(left or right) then in your off hand you hold the arrow, making the classic how you use a bow. The quiver just didnt make sense with the new offhand feature

who cares if theres no quiver its just the same exept no quiver slot.
Nooo! Why remove a feature that they probably wasted a lot of time implementing given they work so slowly... ? -.-

This would lead me to believe he put some common-sense into the off-hand system.
