To me, the three new stone types are great looking blocks, and I enjoy building with them. The only problem is, they just feel unfinished. The developers just threw them in on one snapshot, and gave them each one recipe, which makes smooth variants. The polished diorite isn't that smooth compared to the other smooth variants. Where's the stairs and slabs?
Also, it confuses me why there are recipes used to convert one stone type to another. I just don't understand why, it feels like Mojang wants to discourage mining.

What do you think about the new stone types?
I think its about bloody time someone gutted the minecraft code and whent
"Well this si a block, and all blocks can be half slab, pressure plates, stairs etc.." Right thought he whole code,
Why do we not have Solid stone stairs ect.. Why must I make stone bricks then stairs from those, when thats not even what I want, I just want stairs that are carved out of stone.

Do you realize how many item ID's there are for stairs alone? For each materiel a stair is made of, there are eight individual orientations.
EDIT: Make that 24 orientations. I forgot corner stairs.
