This is the best thing EVER to happen to all minecraft-kind
For now at least. Mod API should be around the corner, and after that the forum is going to crash due to all the new posts praising it.
As for the rabbits, all those vague and redundant posts in Suggestions finally made a difference. I'm also interested in how taming rabbits will work, because Ryan Holtz said that you'll be able to do that.

I've only been finding them in new terrain, but pretty much the second I wandered into a blank spot on the map I was swarmed with bunnies - I've seen them in taiga, birch forest, going up into extreme hills and down to a sunflower field.
First trip, I leashed a few and dragged them back to the house to start breeding; but I'd missed the bit about them being pets, and while having a dozen hyperactive rabbits teleporting to you from the nice secure pen you'd built and hopping all over the place when you're trying to Get Stuff Done can be annoying, I'm not entirely sure about turning my pets into dinner... So I went back out to fill in the top corner of my map and came back with most of a stack of rabbit hides, half a stack of rabbit meat, and one rabbit foot (with Looting I on my sword - they *did* say it was a rare drop), and there were still plenty of rabbits left for next time...
Taming is pretty straightforward, just stand there with some carrots and wait for them to come to you; avoiding sudden movements, feed them when they look ready.

Ok, so after a few days of hopping around with the bunnines, the whole not being able to make them sit is starting to become a problem. Peter Rabbit was the first to die by materializing in front of me just as I was swinging my pickaxe... And minecart travel is much less convenient when an entire herd of rabbits teleports onto the tracks, causing you to bounce off and reverse direction. I think even the villagers are starting to get irritated...
Think I'll be eating a lot of rabbit stew in the next few days...
I love rabbits but...do they do anything special as pets?
Cuz if they don't I don't understand the point in having a pet rabbit following you around. Just let them be normal farm animals like pigs, cows and chickens and let you breed them more easily.
I don't even bring my cats and dogs around most of the time since they tend to fall into lava:P
Being a rabbit owner in real life I've seen how easily they breed, and they certainly don't need to like you to do so:P Don't think they should just breed on their own as that would cause lag, but drop the taming bit first.
I have a question and that is: Why are the rabbits persistent? They are wild like wolves and ocelots, not farm animals. Because of this, you kill them, and then they are gone. The only way to breed them is to tame them, but then they follow and teleport to you. They should be made to be non-persistent, that way they are more of a hunted mob rather than a farm mob.

Pretty sure that they're like cats you have to hold a carrot out and they will come to you and you can tame them.

Real rabbits don't make sounds. The only time they make a sound is when they're in deadly danger, in which case they give off a terrifying scream.
Actually, they can grunt pretty loudly too. My GF's rabbit is a grumpy bunny, and he grunts at people all the time. Mine rarely grunts, but he'll do it if I make him mad. They also thump loudly with their back feet when alarmed.
Oh, and I have a tamed bunny on my island now. He hops on my bed like my real bunny.

I think I am for this idea. Have them spawn in whatever biomes are fitting like ocelots. If they always follow people around once tamed they will end up in lava, off a cliff, in front of a weapon swing, sailing off in your mine cart, or teleporting into blocks 99.5 out of 100 times.

gg dice
Agreed. They don't look as good as the could. Maybe they should hire some mod developers to design better rabbits... haha.
I take it rabbits will only spawn in newly generated terrain?

Rabbit of Caerbannog will lead to me spending hours hunting in my world with a name tag in my inventory and then having him chasing back to my house.
