Does anyone know if Mojang or Microsoft will ever hold the Minecons in person anymore? Was it because of COVID-19 that they stopped doing it, or financial reasons?
I don't know why exactly they stopped, but I don't believe they are ever going to be holding them in person again, I think that Minecraft live has entirely replaced the in-person Minecon events.
But they definitely did not stop cause of covid-19, the last Minecon was in 2016
Its expensive, even if Microsoft have endless pits of money.
Youth audience is involved and data privacy laws are strict and a purposeful burden to these tech companies and so they don't want to deal with it.
And also the game is big, its well known outside of the video game sphere and has entered into our cultural knowledge. Many people would want to attend and problems will arise with organization & security that no one wants to handle...
And so it is easier and better for no convention event, sad as it is for many of us who missed an opportunity.

I mean, don't get me wrong, if they were to host another in-person Minecon, I would be exited, but I feel like they probably won't do that.

I sure hope they have another in-person event, I missed all the other ones, and would be interested in going.
If they bring back actually live events I'd go if I could
