Hi, 21yo guy here. Minecraft was my life for roughly a year and change. I'm at Minecon because Minecraft has a special place in my heart. I have tons of great memories about it, will always view it through nostalgia goggles, etc etc. I also came to the con hoping to connect with members of the community with a similar story as mine.
Unfortunately, I've mainly been seeing lots of kids, lots of parents of said kids, and lots of big groups. It'd be nice to not lone-wolf the entirety of the con experience, so if your age is in the 18 to 30ish range (not picky at all about the upper limit), we should meet up tonight or tomorrow! We can hit up some panels, check out the merch/gaming hall, explore the area for food, try the hotel swimming pools, whatever, really. Don't worry, my social skills are half-passable at the very least. PM me. Hope to hear from you!
I am curious, did you somehow find people to hang out?
On Minecon 2012, where I was 22 years old, I experienced the same thing. Closed groups, families and kids. But no socially interested people of my age. Worst, when there was an opportunity to meet some people on Notch's party, they wouldn't let me in, because (freely distributed) tickets were limited, and I was in the line of people the first one, who got none, since they were out. Fun fact about this: Earlier, I left somebody passing me, because she was in a group of people, and they didn't want to wait for her. So much about karma. I even talked to Lydia, but she did not care at all. Well, then just another boring evening alone in my hotel room...
I never went to Minecon again. If I did, I'd only go as an agent, so it is ensured, that there are people who I can talk to.
