Hello, I have a friend that may not be going to minecon, and if hes not, we were going to refund his ticket. but I've seen people selling them on ebay. I was just wondering. are these scams? or are people actually buying real tickets? If you've bought one from ebay, please reply.
They would almost certainly be scams, since you have to enter the names of the ticket recipients when you order them, and only those people can use the tickets to enter the event. The tickets are not transferable from one person to another, and the names on the tickets cannot be changed.
I've removed the links to the auctions you are referring to, since we don't want those linked to on these forums.
Minecon tickets are linked to a Full name and you are unable to change that name. So 100% of Minecon tickets for sale by 3rd party are scams or mistaken about the ability for someone to use their ticket after resale. Sure, maybe you can just grab a ticket(assuming it's not a scam) and claim to not have an ID. Maybe that will fly...but is it worth the risk and cost?
There actually not scams people just got tickets to sell them and make money. Although there may be some scams out there but you can tell by using the reputation system ebay has. Some one who does stuff like buy really hard to get tickets and then sell them usually don't want some kids parents giving them negative feedback. So if you want to know if there real just look at what there rep is.

You can only use a ticket that has your name on it, and the name can only be set when the ticket is initially purchased, so any tickets being resold on eBay are not usable by the buyer. Regardless of whether the seller is scamming or genuinely thinks they can sell the ticket legitimately, the end result is someone buying a ticket that they cannot use to enter the Minecon event.
I have been to the past two minecons and they have never asked me once for a id they just scan the ticket and they say that none transferable thing for years.
Regardless of what has happened in previous Minecon events, people should not have the expectation of being able to get into the event on a ticket purchased from a third party. Worst-case would be someone going through the expense of flying/driving to the Minecon event and being refused entry, and ultimately wasting much more money than just the cost of the ticket.
