Since the problem with animals escaping their pens was (apparently) fixed, I'm noticing another problem now with my farm... animals are getting stuck in the corner of the fenced in area. This happened with cows, and it also is now happening with chickens. They get stuck right in the fence and can't move. Also, when I feed the stuck chicken some seeds, it goes into breeding mode with the hearts, but none of the other chickens that are in breeding mode seem to notice the one that's stuck in the corner.
I've resorted to breaking the fence corner and then replacing it immediately, but that's a disaster waiting to happen. If only one animal got stuck in each corner, I could live with it, but I'm noticing a bunch of them end up stuck there.
Another annoying issue, obv not a game-breaker or anything. Anyone else notice this, or see if it's on the bug list yet? Why the heck is such a simple thing as a fence so hard for mojang to get right?
It's probably because the game wasn't originally programmed to have mobs technically be inside the same meter which also has a block in it. Another reason 1.7 should be the update where (finally) the entire engine is re-written. Notch we all love ya', but damn, the Minecraft engine is a mess of code ;).
I've seen this bug quite a bit, both in playing and in YouTube videos. Personally, I have resorted to replacing corner fences with 2m solid-block columns, which seems to make the issue go away.
Yes this appears to be the solution to the minor problem. I had already been in the habit of sinking all my animal pens one block into the ground on my SSP world due to the escaping issue... so it looks like I should just leave them that way despite Mojang's "fix" of that problem. Not worth moving them back up to ground level if there's still gonna be an issue with fences and animals.
Yep...it's 2015 and I am still experiencing this issue. I play on vanilla MC 1.7.10 and FTB modded (version 1.1.1 direwolf20)...in addition to them getting stuck in the corner of the pen, they also don't follow. Sometimes after reloading many times I will get the animal's interest and they will follow but I have been unsuccessful with sheep.
It is a bug because I can get their attention but once they have the attention on the wheat in my hand, you can see their feet move extremely slowly and in small steps because they are trying to walk but they are stuck on the block. They will stare at you and try to move to you but they cannot. However, they walk fine on their own - it is a bug when ti comes to them wanting to follow you.
I rather they get stuck in the fence..anyone know how to fix their following movement? All they do is take a tiny step - freeze, tiny step -freeze..takes like 30 seconds for them to walk out of a block to follow me. Only happens when they are interested in following me...other than that they move fine on their own all over the map.
Use water to prevent mobs from getting close to the fenceline. You could probably just get away with source blocks in the corners, but for sheep you might want to use a ring of pressure plates to keep a grassy area unless you just do a mutton-farm design.
I still find my cows all over the place when I come back to my base or log on, even though they're fenced in.
That's going to happen regardless of design. You'll find that instead of escaping through the fences, though, they'll just suffocate in the walls. The key to every design thus has to be to prevent entities from reaching the walls in the first place.
