Have you seen the Lego Movie yet? I don't want to spoil it, but it's pretty awesome. Warner Bros did LEGO proud, and now has its sights on giving Minecraft a similar movie makeover.
As of this writing, there are no hard dates for production (or release), and it seems that talks between Mojang and Warner Bros are ongoing.
Rumors abound on whether the movie will be animated, or live-action. According to film blog "Deadline Hollywood", Roy Lee (co-producer of the LEGO film) is set to produce Minecraft. Notch has said that Mojang will retain a significant level of creative control of the movie, something they are not willing to budge on. Who will star in it? What will the story be about? At the moment, no one knows!
Keep an ear to the ground - we might see a Minecraft movie before the end of the year.

With all the animated music (and other) videos of Minecraft out there, I think it'd be nice for there to be an official animated movie. I don't like the idea of it being live action, that just isn't Minecraft-y enough for me.
I am pretty sure its going to be animated, so I am apprehensive by saying it will be out by the end of the year due to the fact that the Lego movie began development in 2008 and only now have we got to see it. In my personal opinion, I don't think we will see the finished product by the end of next year either. But overall, I think this will be a wonderful project for the fans to watch and a great monetary opportunity for Mojang to capitalise on.

it needs to have steve as the good guy and herobrine as the bad guy. Or better yet!?! Make it about Herobrine in his home world the overworld just living it up doing what he does then a stranger who looks just like him shows up and starts destroying the land and building huge things for no reason so herobrine trying to scare him into leaving and when that doesn't work he performs an ancient and forbidden ritual (of putting soulsand in a T and putting with skulls on it) to summon the wither to kill this intruder.
...... Umm..... I can hardly figure out how to comment on this. :|
What would the plot even consist of...? ... Maybe an elaborate way of how every Minecrafter starts out and lives through Minecraft: starting out in an unfamiliar world, exploring and testing things out, finding out new things and how to craft, seeing how darkness produces dangerous monsters, coming to mind to build shelter, etc, all the way to conquering the Ender Dragon. All with the expression of how it is more fun to play with company.
... Maybe? Idk, the whole thing seems pretty bizzare to me. But who knows, it might be surprisingly good. I'd love to see a creeper in it. lol

The LEGO movie was amazing, and LEGOs don't have any plot.
