I have a question about the whole account thing...... the suggestions have been made at the end of April beginning of May,is it almost ready for a public release? or is it still in the planning phase?
Another thing, if bans can be bypassed easily by changing the username, then why not ban the user from logging in by one day or so.... or worse if multiple bans have accumulated? .......some FFT (Food For Thought)
I totally agree with you. Just think of all the noobs that would be changing their names all the time just for the hell of it! Although I think that for special cases (like people that accidentally put in their real name) should be able to change once.
Given that when you die in the most recent snapshots, it'll say "(your email) died!" as opposed to "(your username) died!", this hints to email-address-based player IDs, and by extension, changeable usernames. Bans and the like will just be done by email, with the email being the one that you registered your paid Minecraft account with.

Well, as far as I've read, they will basically change the system to work through UUID's instead of in-game names. The name that you used to purchase Minecraft will be permanent, though. But yeah, I remember seeing that weird e-mail offline thing.

My suggestion is, everyone has unique id, from this id you get banned/OPed etc... Username can be changed any time.
I'm sorry, but I despise this idea of changing names. Sure, I regret my name, and more so down the track because I chose it from what bullies used to call me, but honestly let's look at the pros and cons of this.
Pros:
1. You can have a cool new username.
Cons:
1. Server Owners can't ban you if you change your name.
2. It is morally confusing for people to distinguish you.
3. It's going to cause many problems down the track, whether system overloads at Mojang, or debates of innapropriateness.
This is why I don't condone this new idea Jeb brought to mind, it's just plain horrible and will lead to a new level of griefing.

I like the idea of changing usernames because your views and interests change over time. Imagine if you had a name like kawaiisasukeyaoi23 or something.
This isn't a good idea, you should've taken time to decide on your name, it will bring too many problems that shoulden't be delt with.
