Would be nice feature, i wasnt 100% sure when i made an account that username was for ingame too. Because I just got the game and only started playing....
I hate my username. It is probably one of the worst out there. 'PonyPleaser' sounds pretty stupid. I am currently not banned on any servers, and would hate to have to pay a 'Fee'. I think to solve the 'ban problem' you could,
1. Give players and Numerical ID and ban that
2. Make it so you can only change your name ONCE, then pay a fee.

I believe that it should cost money only after the first time you do it unless the ID idea is implemented as well, and even then I wouldn't mind the change fee after the first time. Perhaps they could have a free name change every 6 months or so? After people make a name and figure out the game or if they look back and see how childish their name really was, they should have a chance to change it to something more mature or appropriate. After that, they would probably just be messing around anyway or trying to evade ban lists. That's when you hit then with a 5 euro fee. (Considering that Mojang primarily a European gaming company)
As for the famous crafters, they should probably just mention it to their fans and then the word will spread. The person who steals the name will more likely be raged at and shunned if they try something as stupid as impersonating a well known celebrity who just changed their name.

Tell me, which is better to believe in? The existence of god or the values he supposedly has? -Tanner Hagreen
i like mine but out of curiosity, would you have to pay? also as for ips, yes they could be proxied but if people really wanted to get into a server they would get a new account anyways
I like the idea, but will that mean that usernames will no longer be unique? I really don't want to join a server with 10% of them called John. (Example.)
I'm sorry, but I despise this idea of changing names. Sure, I regret my name, and more so down the track because I chose it from what bullies used to call me, but honestly let's look at the pros and cons of this.
Pros:
1. You can have a cool new username.
Cons:
1. Server Owners can't ban you if you change your name.
2. It is morally confusing for people to distinguish you.
3. It's going to cause many problems down the track, whether system overloads at Mojang, or debates of innapropriateness.
This is why I don't condone this new idea Jeb brought to mind, it's just plain horrible and will lead to a new level of griefing.
Changing your ingame name would definitely be helpful, because there are people (like me) who made there ingame name with something stupid and their year of birth.
Or their location, or just something that is plainly stupid/offensive.
But if it was inplemented, it should be free, but maybe only available once or twice, because otherwise it could become a daily occurance.
Also it would probably effect servers and bans that have taken place on them.
With the bad nooby usename problem, I was playing cracked Minecraft for a while (November 2011 to March 2012) so I knew what username I wanted, but I know a friend who has the stupidest username - even he hates it. So, yeah, being able to change your username would be good.

/\ Stolen from Axxe127, who stole from awshox, who stole from switchs, who stole from Badgerz, who stole from Tirin.
The only situation a name change can be possible is if, every user name now is assigned a non changing ID number. So Servers can ban people and their ID, and even if their name changes the ID wont
I do support the idea of account changes, but I think the best thing would be to only give each account one name change, so people can't constantly switch and grief on servers.
There could be a certain id for each player and maybe a cooldown too ... that way if a server bans the player, it will ban the id not the name Problem solved!Nvm about the cool down
I change my mind no cool down would be better just a unique id .

I like your idea a lot.

I have a Spoon. Your argument is invalid.
Server owners can ban ips!!!!!!!
well no cool down to change it back in case you dont like it ....
People can change their IP. IP bans aren't all that good.
