Hey all,

I recently tried to strip some logs in MC 1.21 Java Edition, running on a Paper server - no joy. Some of my friends can strip logs just fine. I go into single player mode - it works just fine.

I just can't do it on the multiplayer server. I have done it in the past but not how.

I have tried removing and re-installing the java installer but no joy. What do do?

Plugins?

Do you have stuff in offhand like a shield?

yes. I have a shield in my off hand. Axe in my primary hand. I should be able to right-click with that an strip a log

This is a known bug in connection with geyser

Java clients can't strip logs while holding a shield, but bedrock clients can. The server prevents this from happening as it isn't possible for java

This is not a bug; it is in fact an intentional change in the 1.21 update to ease combat in trial chambers. From the Minecraft Wiki:

When a player with an axe in the main-hand and a shield in the off-hand performs a use action, the game now prioritizes holding up the shield over using the axe (to strip wood or scrape copper).

That did the trick. I'm not sure what Geyser is exactly since I play on a paper server with no mods.

I just swapped out my shield and am stripping away like a girl on a pole

I am shocked that there is not a mod made to disable this yet... I am not sure why Mojang even made this decision because the trail chambers don't have logs... Not to mention they could have made this a toggleable option, having to remove your shield every time you want to strip logs makes me just not want to carry a shield.
