Not sure where this thread belongs but I think here. I’m playing in a Java realm on 1.19.4.
I’ve tried a river, a pond, the middle of the ocean. Tried all 3 of these for multiple hours and I’ve gotten NOTHING. What am I doing wrong?
I've never fished and gotten nothing, personally, and I'm not sure what could cause that in vanilla.
Cheats are on I think cause we have keep inventory but other than that I don’t think anything is modded, nothing that I know has been changed. It’s not my realm and it works fine if I just start as current version of game at launch I’m not having to use forge. I guess I’ll have to ask about mods but I’m fairly certain there aren’t any.
EDIT. I asked, no mods. They’re using texture packs but no mods.
Wait, so this happens only if you use Forge but not if you use vanilla?
If so, then it seems something in Forge (or some other difference in that profile) is responsible.
No Im not using forge, sorry if that was confusing. This is on a vanilla server, no mods. All I get are the fish and sometimes leather boots. After hours of trying in different spots.
Regardless of not using Forre, you say "it works fine if I just start as the current version of the game" so it seems to me like it could be a profile issue either way?
Does this only happen in that world (server), or in other worlds (either other servers or single player)? I'm presuming other players don't have the issue?
I meant the game works without forge, like I can load the game up as is for the realm. I dont know if it's working for others because no one else on this server fishes and I've asked someone if they could take like 10 minutes and see what happens but no one has so far...which would be really good info to know. I'll have to bug someone to do it. Ill report back when someone has.
I did some fishing, 2 enchanted books but it took an hour and 10 minutes.
I dug out a 5x5x5 hole and filled it with water (1 layer at a time gives smooth still water throughout). Cast into the middle of the pool and have no problem getting 'junk' and 'treasure'.

To start, I have to ask, what type of Fishing Rod are you using, enchanted or unenchanted? Enchantments on a Fishing Rod can make the experience faster and a little more appealing. Lure (Max Level of III) will decrease the overall wait time, Luck of the Sea (Max Level of III) will slightly increase the odds of fishing Treasure Tier Loot out of the water while also slightly reducing the odds of fishing Junk Tier Loot out of the water, Unbreaking (Max Level of III) allows durability reduction to be ignored sometimes when the Rod is being used, and Mending (Max Level of I) allows the Fishing Rod to be repaired via XP Orbs.
If your Fishing Rod is Unenchanted or underenchanted, it will take way longer to fish up Treasure Tier loot and that is if you're even doing so in the right spot. Remember when enchanting, Most Expensive to Least Expensive when Possible, so the Base NBT RepairCost for the Maximum Level of each enchantment without penalty is as follows:
Luck of the Sea III : 6
Lure III: 6
Curse of Vanishing I: 4 (I wouldn't recommend putting this on your Fishing Rod)
Unbreaking III: 3
Mending I: 2
Second, are you trying to fish during clear/sunny weather or also when there is rain/a thunderstorm? While it is harder to fish during rain or a thunderstorm due to it being harder to see the bubbles in the water going towards the bobber, it is faster paced, so if you are skipping rain/thunderstorms, that can also slow you down. While fishing is faster on Bedrock Edition than it is on Java Edition (As the Splashing before the Bubbles going to the bobber animation isn't used like it is on Java/Console Legacy), much so to the point to where you can literally powerfish during rain/a thunderstorm with a fully enchanted Fishing Rod, it can still be quite fast on Java Edition during Rain/a Thunderstorm.
Third, are you fishing out in open water in a space that is at least 5 X 5 X 5 (Or larger) for the Bobber where it is open air above the bobber and Water otherwise within this space requirement? If not, then this is likely why you are not getting Treasure Tier Loot at all.
If you have a fully enchanted Fishing Rod (Save Curse of Vanishing I) and fishing during a Thunderstorm/Rain in the described spots above and fishing still doesn't yield any treasure loot after I would say two hours (Like Saddles, Enchanted Bows, Enchanted Rods, Enchanted Books) as I feel getting no Treasure Tier loot within two hours would be a somewhat solid indicator, then I would send a bug report with details including dates, times of the bugs, expected results, observed results, etc. to the Realms Admin.
Also keep in mind with all of this going, all the best case scenarios on that there are times due to RNG that you won't get an enchanted book for hours. Granted while I hold some interesting personal records on Bedrock, like fishing 11 Mending books out of the water in an 8 Hour Fishing session, or fishing 5 Mending I books out of the water in 22 Minutes, at the end of the day, it is RNG based. You can fish for hours, get loads of saddles and enchanted rods/bows before getting a single enchanted book. One time when I was fishing, and even with all the right setups, it took me four hours to fish a single enchanted book out of the water. So I would also recommend having patience with it.

Unfortunately we don't have a choice in whether or not a rod has Curse of Vanishing if say it was received out of the water with it or if it was given to us by somebody else.
However fully enchanted cursed rods I would still use sometimes, it's not like using them would be hurtful to the overall gameplay and provided your fishing hut was secure enough, which you do a good job of making yourself on our server, it makes no difference whether the rod was cursed or not, by the time you had finished using your rod it's likely you would've kept it in a chest somewhere, making it immune to the vanishing effect in the case of death, then there's the use of Totem of Undying, which means the consequences for using a Curse of Vanishing item becomes moot.
Treasure can be obtained in naturally generated lake, river or ocean provided the minimum requirements are met which you mentioned, 5x5x5.
I go by testing first and foremost, if it provided me treasure once, it would most probably do it again and again by RNG.
Some things we need to figure out on our own, but generally speaking I use naturally generated lakes or oceans for fishing in the game as they do a pretty good job in providing decent loot anyhow.
My fishing huts are not AFK by design, they're all manual, but they do work and I even use lightning rods for them to protect the wooden structure, not just make the boardwalk secure from attack from Drowned Zombies using Magma Blocks. The only main weakness in them being that if they do not have a suitable shelter for the outdoor portion on the boardwalk, then Phantoms will come out and harass me or other players using them who haven't used a bed on the 3rd night.

Need a 4x4x4 box of purely water around the bob. A pond and river won't work, ocean requires a deep part (are you by a hill?)
No hill, I went out to the very middle where it’s very deep and wide open. I thought that would work.
Is the server vanilla, or has it made changes?

And what about on other worlds (either other servers, or your own local ones)?
If you can catch something, but it's slower, but no other worlds behave that way, then I would think it has to be something on the end of the server.
Something is messing with the luck/draw charts for the treasure chances in your mods, that's all I can say.'
