My theory is that the portal leads to the real world of the Warden which I call Silency (For Silence), and the wardens come to invade us, so the purpose of the noise detectors is to warn the warden that someone is approaching, and therefore the warden arrives to protect the portal.

After "Steve" & "Alex" killed the ender dragon they conquered the end. Steve came up with a crazy constraption to gather enormous amount's of xp & enderpearls by slaying dozens of *CENSORED*.
Meanwhile in the Nether:
Piglins worry as they notice an incremental increase of soulsand generating within their domains, OUTSIDE of soulsand valley...
Shortly after that in the overworld:
"Nope, there is to much lag in my world!
I have to slow down those visitors...
How about i add a new biome including a rediculus strong creature at diamond level..."
The way I see it, wardens and ancient cities have a deep, historical connection, in that they used to be the "wardens" or protectors of it, and although the cities are long gone in ruins, wardens never vanished. It's possible they even became corrupted by the mysterious sculk organism (which has also corrupted the cities, becoming the "deep dark" biome). The sculk themselves may be related to the "portal" in the middle of the cities.
The "lore" likely will always be non-canonical and based on personal player-made tales, so there's no real answer, just being as valid as anyone can come up with that sounds feasible.

Ok, so here is my take on a warden theory.

My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
