Im playing on the seed that I found ('THE DEEP' aka '438529668182993065') which I LOVE because there is a Woodland Mansion 500 blocks from spawn. Im in the process of clearing it out and using it as a base.
In one of the rooms I've set up a nether portal, but when I try to portal back home, it puts me in the woods ~100 blocks away... I broke the new portal and tried again, but it made a new one again 2 blocks from the other one.
Is there something that doesn't allow you to portal into a mansion, even if it is linked and you already portaled out of the mansion? If so, does anyone know how close a portal can be to a mansion, in case I need to build an expansion to the mansion for a portal room?
It can be a bit tricky to link portals. I don't know how much distance they need between each other.
However 1 block traveled in the overworld equals 8 blocks in the nether. That's why you can end up far out from spawn fast by traveling through the nether.
Edit:
Sorry it's the opposit. 1 block traveled in nether equals 8 on overworld.

For clarification, I used the exact same portal that generated in the nether to get back. But instead of dropping me off inside the mansion portal I made to get to the nether in the first place, it generated a second overworld portal 100+ blocks away.
I think the portals you have in the nether are to close to each other.
There is nothing that prevents you from building portals in structures like the mansion. In fact you could accidently discover one by leaving the nether on a random location. But what are the odds?

My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
The way to link portals properly is to make one in the overworld(which you already have). Take the portals x and z coordinates and divide by 8 and go through to the nether and tear down the portal there. Then go to the coordinates in the nether that you got by dividing the overworld portal and rebuild it there. That will link them. Also might wanna tear down the one that spawned in the woods away from the mansion.

So normally:
A => B and B => A
But I got:
A => B, B => C but now Both A and C travel to B
