I noticed that the Minecraft Launcher looks for versions (to create profiles) in the usual .minecraft/versions folder.
However, as far as I know, the Minecraft Launcher application and the .minecraft folder are not intrinsincally related, in the sense that they are not at the same location.
Is it possible to change that folder ? I mean force the launcher to look for versions in a different folder ?
That would come in handy when it comes to create several .minecraft folders, which I like to do.
Open the Minecraft launcher, then go to Installations, then make a new installation, select the version of the game you want to play on in the version tab, then, at the Game Directory tab, change it to the folder where you want the version to be located. Minecraft has all things set by default in the .minecraft folder, and there is no way you can move the .minecraft folder in another place, it is located by default in the AppData folder because this is the default directory set by the launcher when you install it.
Alright, thanks. I don't like the fact that it lets us run minecraft in other folders yet the versions available still have to be in the original .minecraft.
