I was wondering if logging onto the same account and playing on the same server at the same time was EVER possible in the history of minecraft java edition. I am not asking if this is possible today. Any information on the subject would be appreciated.

For as long as multiplayer has been possible in the game without mods, two players with the same IGN joining is impossible. Online mode or not.
