My computer this morning got bluescreened and I ended up having to wipe it and reinstall windows, luckily there was a feature where I could save my files through the wipe, but I was not able to save my programs. So I reinstalled minecraft, however my screenshots are gone, which is sad because they date back to 2018 when I installed minecraft on my current pc, and I had a lot of screenshots of youtubers and other cool things. Does anyone know of a way to recover them? (I have already checked my recycle bin and screenshots folder in appdata).
Technically files still exist on a hard drive after being deleted. It would be extremely detrimental to the life of a hard drive to overwrite the data for a file with zeroes whenever it is deleted. What actually happens is the file exists in a kind of limbo state where you cannot see them but they exist until new files are written to that location on the drive.
There are tools to recover those files that have varying degrees of success, but I don't know any of them well enough to give a recommendation. But that's a good starting point.

I suggest Recuva. It's freeware that does exactly what Badprenup said above. It's not 100% guaranteed, and the more you've used your HD between the reset and when you use Recuva the less likely it is to succeed. However it might be able to recover at least some of what you lost. Just be prepared to leave your PC on for a day or two, and wade through a LOT of junk before finding what you wanted. It is NOT going to be a quick process.
I agree with the suggestion Alvoria made to use Recuva, I can confirm this can be used on SSD's and SD cards too, believe me I know from experience, it works.
on a system drive it is less likely to be successful because of things like a pagefile and temp file access, but it can be done, you need to hurry to get your screenshots back because having everything on the same drive Windows is installed on means they could be gone within a couple of days.

I hope that helps you.
